This nonsense of Roberts caring about his legacy should be firmly put to bed. The man is ready to user in the new Conservative Feudalism and to hell with democracy and equality.
The usually assholes. Not surprised Roberts thought it was a bridge to far, he's woried about his legacy and the court's legitimacy again. Little surprised justice Handmaiden was on the right side.
All that being said, I don't for one second believe both Barrett and Roberts vote the way they do if Merchan had signaled there was a chance of actual consequences tomorrow
And Barrett is showing signs of realizing the limits of her ideology. I don’t think she’ll make the full type of transformation that we’ve seen out of neocons (the Cheneys, Bill Kristol, etc). But the worst decisions will be 5-4, not 6-3.
44% of SCOTUS is yet again lawless. Even those who got it right didn't do so for any LEGAL reason; they just prudentially thought that an unconditional discharge didn't matter.
@stevevladeck, so now that DT’s been granted an “unconditional discharge” but is nevertheless a convicted felon, does that include usual restrictions on whether he can’t associate with other felons?
If so, I can see how that might prove useful to discourage him from nominating other felons.
This is a surprise. I don’t mean Alito’s failure to recuse.
Obviously the federal Court would have no business interfering in a state criminal prosecution, after the verdict. But Roberts made a dead letter of an actual clause of the Constitution to protect Trump. It’s odd he wouldn’t do this.
Fantastic, so we were 1 John Roberts vote away from codifying into law that if you are convicted of a crime, being elected into office means you are off the hook. That’s…well that’s deeply unsettling.
Wanna bet the only reason they ruled this way is because ABC News caught Trump and Alito redhanded. Alito should have recused and I hope this ruling isn't the end of the scandal.

Is 100% unacceptable. That court is UnAmerican to the core

Thomas is also usefull if you have a nice boat or camper or too much money and you want a perticular verdict.
Wtf is an 'Alito?'
Kavanaugh: I like beer.
Alito: I like dictatorship.
Gorsuch: I like the admiration of intellectual luminaries like Catturd.
Fucking corrupt court and country.

That this was 5-4 is itself a disgrace.
