This this this this this. If I could disillusion abled people of one idea about disability, it's the idea that when you get sick, doctors will actually help you. This is almost always an abject lie, so much so that we all pass around the names of doctors who will like they're magic spells.

Part of why healthy people aren't afraid to get sick is- they think if they do develop long-term issues, they'll be able to go & get treated by doctors who will work day and night to fix them (as it was on House, M.D.) & don't realize there's a 99% chance they'll be told they just have anxiety

But for that week I was seriously considering quitting a job really like. I love my career, but I haven’t liked my job since 2010.
Fuck ERISA too.
But with long-term, diffuse symptoms without clear diagnostic criteria? Good freaking luck.
Only dentist I've had who did a full soft tissue exam after finding out I have autoimmune disease. Today did a neuro exam of the inside of my mouth bc I'm having neuro issues. She was happy to send that to my neurologist.
I really try so very hard to trust doctors, but they don't make it easy.
(Also a lot of the rest of the system, but if ever given the chance I will raze CVS Caremark, salt the earth in preparation, and then nuke them from orbit just to be sure.)
Single best no of my life. Other bullet dodged was law school (during the 08 recession.)

The desire to help feels so rare in medical professionals.

Or that's at least how it is with the top Boston hospitals, idk about mayo.
Believe patients
We have about the only for-profit medical system *in the world* for exactly this reason.
