Hulu was incredibly good for the first few years. it had basically every show aired on broadcast TV and a bunch of cable stuff, and was free to watch, it just had ~30 second commercial breaks where the commercial breaks were

Yeah but during that era that was otherwise golden, I seem to recall the show selection being a lot more limited. I know we were willing to put up with the transition to more ads and paid tier bullshit because they were getting ahold of way more content, and getting it on the site earlier.
