The billionaire owned press (almost all of it) has already been cowed into submission by its ownership.
Trump is just telling the people running media organizations to do more of what their owners are already telling them to do, so Trump demanding fealty is redundant not repugnant to them.
Pretty soon those window diseases are going to be responsible for so many deaths out of tall windows! In all seriousness, should I feel bad for journalists who walked us into fascism?? 🤣 Nope, no one should, ever.
Is this surprising? Those same media outlets didn’t publish a damn piece of actual journalism during 15 months of Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people. US mainstream news sources are basically state propaganda outlets regardless of who is in charge. 🤷🏻♀️
Musk’s Twitter complained all the way to the supreme ct. about the White House asking people to take down untrue stuff. Huh… I guess they want to keep untrue stuff up but take true stuff down. Odd way to operate the press. I don’t think that’s the press anymore, that’s propaganda and advertising.
No Women Wednesday! A way to show our economic power. Don't buy anything on Wednesdays! Every Wednesday until we see change! If you are able, call out from work!
We need to make it easy for all women, so this can be done anywhere and still have an impact! We need to come together to show our power
Have you seen what Steve Wynn is wanting for the press to be punished for bad coverage of Trump? Is this even possible or will journalists cave in to more threats? It seems Gillenbrand is saying death threats are making them fall in line?
What if Bill Gates and Warren Buffett (as sane billionaires?) put up a few hundred million in a mega fund to ensure a for fight in the courts? Really, one of the sane ones should step up. I mean Soros would be perfect, but the conspiracy crowd would lose what’s left of their minds.
Indeed, and the damage has been done. They don't need to actually get her fired. The non-reaction by the "free" press makes it clear to every journo that you criticise anything associated with the administration at your peril.
Nothing from the editorial board, just a small buried article, with no Dems interviewed. Only the briefest mention of the free speech threat via a bland quote from nonprofit.
In comparison, NYT pushed a years-long firehose of “libs are a danger to free speech,” both in A1 headlines and editorials.
Thank you, journalists, for the frequently thankless work that you do. The bad news makes you get hit in the crossfire in a shoot-the-messenger type of anger, unfortunately.
As exhaustive as her emails or his age? The New York Times is welcome to do some actual reflection some day as to how it has given great aid to get us into this crisis- that could be its own undoing.
Look man, we published this one story even though we employee Haberman, Brooks, etc, and even though we published a million but her emails stories, so we're like, fighting the good fight man.
Not for nothing this is the same energy my kids give when I ask them to empty the dishwasher, which is their daily chore. "But I did it yesterday!" Yeah, no shit. Guess what? The dishwasher has to be emptied every day. Same with defending democracy.
You can't actually argue that the NYT didn't consistently sanewash the Trump campaign, downplays the actions he's taking now, and wasn't a major player in bolstering the trans panic Trump is using to scapegoat innocent people, including children
We can like your byline but also completely blame the NYT for being mealy mouthed enablers.
When you work at the same paper as David Brooks (and while that’s not on you) you’re not exactly in the best position to express criticism about a lot of the pure crap the NYT puts out. It pays the bills.
You should hate yourself for working for a place that publishes this as the end of an article, complete with posed glam shots, on the construction of concentration camps.
It is a vile, awful drag on society that should be run into the ground so that better papers can take its place.
Our beef is with NUT editors, headline writers and a bunch of ITS political reporters’ focus and use of language that both sides and minimizes Trump and his minions actions.
Good with Ryan Mac, yourself and a bunch of others.
Are y’all investigating his comments about the counting machines and will you highlight @gregpalast.bsky.social reporting? He’s an investigative journalist who documents voter suppression but keeps getting crickets from most of msm.
For Christ’s sake it’s not like this is the price of eggs (*if a Democrat is president) or document security (*if regarding a Democratic candidate) or the president being old (*and a Democrat). THOSE stories get A1.
Any update with regard to your request for content from WSJ? (And for context, do they typically respond to Times requests for comment, or do they refuse because you’re the competition?)
I just think it’s disappointing that they won’t publicly defend their good journalism/journalists.
i do think the reporting in the times & elsewhere has really picked up on the lies fueling policy. but the owners truly need to step up and defend their reporters as part of their defense of the news business. b/c trump/musk is trying to crush it.
On a side note - is there any current reporting on the financial state of Twitter at present? Feel like the nosedive of Tesla and Twitter has to be getting ominous for Elon right now.
Of course, a journalist telling the truth should be fired! This is right out of Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, Cuba , China and few scary books that were written decades ago.
CONGRESS????
It’s intensely embarrassing that the press has mostly chosen to lay down to these whiny bitches. If one major outlet had any balls they’d corner the market of most newspaper readers, but the owners prefer their other businesses get favorable mergers treatment or other incentives.
@jamellebouie.net has a good opinion part. Maybe more people like him should cover news instead of opinions. What about more investigative journalism? @nytimes.com

AFAIK, they’re making excuses for a guy who hasn’t attempted to disavow anything he wrote.

The support for the former is the government using its power to crush speech.
The NYT bias here is overwhelmingly clear.

And bullying people who support right wing propaganda is Good and worth a follow.
Good with Ryan Mac, yourself and a bunch of others.
Theyre at least partially responsible for the giant pile of sanewashing that got Trump elected.
A22
I might be romanticizing the past, but I think back in the day the Bancrofts or Katherine Graham would’ve said something
I just think it’s disappointing that they won’t publicly defend their good journalism/journalists.
do you know if Lachlan Murdoch or Emma Tucker or Bezos or Sulzberger have said anything yet?
glad to see Post defended E Robinson, did WSJ ever give a response?
CONGRESS????
what's the point of independent media if it's not going to be independent
That's usually the point of owning newspapers.
I hope they do more of this
