Leaf blowers are my enemy. Loud, ecologically disastrous, wasteful, sanitizing monsters. We already have a leaf blower, and it’s the wind. And she is beautiful. You want to mimic the wind? You want to tell her how to do her job?? You prick.

Washington DC recently banned gas-powered leaf blowers (the electric ones are still an affront to the wind but at least they're quieter and pollute less), and seeing people still using gas-powered ones is the closest I ever feel to turning into a narc
I hated them too until we bought a house surrounded by pine trees that vomit pine needles nonstop onto our deck (among other places, the deck is just the most inconvenient landing spot), the biggest PITA to sweep almost daily. So we have a cheap plugin blower almost exclusively for the deck 🤷🏼♀️
I wish the wind would! The deck is oddly sheltered from the wind, the pine needles would built up knee deep if we didn't clear them. I'm glad you don't need a leaf blower, maybe someday I won't again!
Agreed. Or if one must remove/relocate leaves, how about using a rake or broom? Not only are they nearly silent, but you get your exercise while using them.
If they somehow made leaves vanish, that would be one thing. But moving them from here to right over there, to the tune of a 120dB din? The most useless popular invention in history.
My neighbour is out every damn day. The worst is that he turns it on and off in between moving a few steps. At least just keep it going so my brain doesn’t think he’s finally done before starting up again! And he’s blowing leafs out from underneath his car…
I think America can get behind a 2-stroke engine ban on the basis of the fkn racket that leaf blowers make. In the DFW area lawn crews use the cursed things year round for grass clippings, typically for longer than the actual mowing and trimming!
I have a battery powered leaf blower. It uses the same battery as my chainsaw. I physically have difficulty raking the leaves off my driveway. I blow them into my yard. With the number of sticks that also end up in the driveway, the leaves hide them and pose a tripping hazard. It’s a safety issue.
does anyone know #BANKSY:) I want to create a fundraiser - a coin operated leaf blower - you pay to turn it OFF! You put it LEGALLY on your own property and put it to the maximum decibel level allowed by the ordinance - the money collected goes directly to a community garden
Homeowner with disabled household members. We remove leaves to areas of the yard where they can be composted & use the loam. Piles of leaves become VERY slippery (especial when wet)-total hazard for some. Physical limitations mean a blower is the only way to do it ourselves. Don’t judge!
Bluesky not working for me atm, so I can’t get to part one of my little leaf-blower story, written to accompany a repost of your post, Sophia. But while I wait for the glitch to resolve, here is part two via cut&paste:
Well! If it ain’t ol’ Mr. Wound-Too-Tight tryna “leafblow” in high winds! #SMDH
I only judge the people that continue to use the gas powered type in residential neighborhoods. My neighbor has an electric one, and it is SO much quieter and just as effective.

Yes I complained about it in the HOA meeting too when loud parties were brought up.
I have no idea why people are so obsessed with removing leaves.
Not all are ecologically disastrous. Mine is battery powered and not quite the menace as the gas powered.
Don't start TPing in my hood if you don't want to find your home covered in bargain brand single ply, yo
Might as well just use a broom and a dustpan
Just a metaphor of life, I guess
It would have taken him 10 silent seconds to just pick the fucking thing up and put it in his yard waste bin
(fast-forward to right before the end)
Litter instead.
I did those chores, myself, with completely human-powered tools. Piece of cake.
It wasn’t just the absence of ear-splitting, fume-emitting power tools. The sounds of yard work in the neighborhood used to be peaceful.

Trees don't like grass.
There's not much grass in a forest.
Lawns are stupid.
