i think that if you give people scratch-offs as a holiday gift, they should have to give you the money if they win anything. well, there you go. hopefully this extraordinarily terrible stupid-ass opinion brightens your day

i think people should give a portion as a thank-you if it’s a large sum of money, but for smaller stuff (someone said they do a split policy for anything over $100 and that seems like a decent number) i think they should prolly just get to keep it, it is a gift after all
I had a great uncle who would give scratchers as presents, but he would scratch them off first to ensure that the ones he gave away were winners, but not too big.
You don’t understand what “gift” means, and that attitude shows a subtext of greed that is pathetic. Your opinion saddens me. I’m afraid it’s taking over the world.
My take is that if you give someone scratch-offs for a gift and they don’t win anything, you should have to give them the expected value of the tickets in cash.
My aunt once gave me a gift certificate to Olive Garden and called me the next day to tell me she was ready for me to take her out to eat with said gift certificate.
Scratch offs are stupid gifts, but what you're really buying for someone is that moment of blissfully ignorant hope as they hold the ticket and scratch it off and haven't yet found out that it's completely worthless. You're buying them 60 seconds of happiness. There are worse gifts. 🤷♀️
I think they should offer you half. Or maybe take you to a nice dinner. Ooo... depending on the amount pay-off a debt (credit card, car loan, student loan)...you did buy it....but only if it is a big pay-out.
Fervently Disagree. I would have not otherwise purchased that ticket and therefore I am entitled to none of the winnings. I can't believe some of you. If you can't accept the recipient of the Scratcher deserves every penny then DON'T give them the scratcher. It is that simple, you children. Ugh
Actually you should have to give the money back to the company that made the cards, they wouldn't have sold them at that price if they knew they were so valuable
My company gave scratch cards instead of bonuses one year…. We all scratched at the same time, and the only person who one was on the C suite.. terrible optics! (On top of an already bad idea)
I gave my thirty techs scratchers one Christmas. If one of them had won, I would have been the best boss. Nobody won so much as a dollar. What a loser boss.
The old story about a waitress who was tipped with a lottery ticket that turned out to be a 10 million dollar winner, and the person who tipped it sued. My day’s not brighter because I’m remembering we’re all barbarians!
If someone gives you scratchers, decline to scratch there then later claim you won largest possible jackpot in that game Thank them profusely & joke how they gave the wrong ones away
Then sit back & watch their resentment grow while enjoying stories of them whining from mutual friends & kin
I feel like that is good family policy. If it ends up big big money might say split it in half where 1 half to the giftee and the rest split among the family if it's over like 5k
A friend once gave a bunch of scratchers as holiday gifts and was really annoyed that one of them won $100. He was fussing so much that his wife made him stop on the way home and buy some for himself. He won $25,000. 😂

Everyone has their own thing… keep being yourself.
I wonder how I would've handled that situation. Probably assume it's a prank and throw it in the trash.

Nope.
