I am not surprised but unfortunately with how very openly and unabashedly that discord sells my data to third parties, I'm not gonna be showing them my bsky account any time soon
I should explain lol, Discord has new embeds for Bluesky that include pulling video mp4s from your PDS and fronting them with their own CDN. this is (a very narrow slice of) an AppView!
this is a consequence of how we populate the embed. we do a first pass using opengraph (just in case any of our API requests fail, we can still return _something_ instead of erroring out) and just stick with the image there because it's good enough
Don't understand Discord, because I have limited social media to only a few. Started with Facebook, but they don't allow news & push so much garbage I don't want 2 see. It's become useless. Hope 2 understand more, but older people Rn't exactly getting an education on all the changes. Glad 2B here.
Long story short: You know how Discord embeds videos in posts from Twitter, Youtube and other sites? In order for that to work for Bluesky, it required special handling.
Discord embeds not just the video, but their own very tiny, but compatible, Bluesky client (called an AppView) with the post.

very protocol, very AT. we love to see it!
np. It's like og previews.
Does their embed treat embedded content like that in general? Or does it just do that for videos?
unless you're mostly in public servers then it's more like a chatroom/forum
With all due respect, the first questions that popped into my head was: What does that even mean? And so what?
Is this like connecting auth/accounts, cross-posting, or…something else?
