Country music fans mad at Beyonce…. Do you realize it was mediocre white dudes that completely bastardized the genre? You cranked up Jason Aldean and now you’re a “purist?” Sit down.

Absolutely nailed it. I was born & bred on C&W, but the bottom dropped out in the 90's. Then I knew something was wrong when my kids tuned in to everything prior 1990's saying the new stuff was crap.
Have you checked out Orville Peck? He'd really scare those mediocre jokes with his cover of "Jackson." I'll take Outlaw Country. They sing what they want, not what Nashville tells them. Fuck Nashville.
Anyone who knows a little bit of American Music history knows that nearly every music trend was a rip off from the original music makers, the black community. And yes gospel music too.
A few years ago she "fell" so badly she had to have reconstructive surgery.
Lots of married women are clumsy.
Her husband definitely didn't do anything to her. He's a violent hockey player, but he would never beat the shit out of his wife.
Why? Chrissle from The Read is also from Oklahoma and she's not a monster. The Tulsa Massacre happened in Oklahoma, none of the black people who died in that were monsters. You threw that out because she's a southerner, but you forgot that every southern state has black people in it.
Also, I did not call anyone a monster. I did not use that word at all, or even imply it. I simply stated that she was from Oklahoma - how does that translate into me supposedly calling everyone monsters including POC? Use your critical thinking skills, I know you have them, I've seen your page ☮️✌️
That state just mandated that all DEI be removed from schools, including the Tulsa massacre story, and the Bible + the 10 Commandments must be taught in every classroom. They're also anti-trans, anti-LGBTQ, and really don't like POC very much. The whole state is fukked.
I have never been a huge Beyoncé fan. But I like her music better than modern country and love to see her succeed in an area where she was clearly made to feel unwelcome. Good for her. I guess success is the best revenge. 🤷♀️
Her song is masterfully constructed. The banjo sounds folk like. The voice is incredible. I just found out one of my former friends is racist because she complained about a black woman earning a Grammy in country music. It's only about the music, not the color.
Great line...mediocre white dudes...i'd add beer guzzling cousin fucking rednecks but that might be little too much...😒😒😒
Nah...i can say it in from TN!!!
💙😁🐢💙
Me, a native Texan, at work explaining the history of country music to Californians and New Yorkers. Baby if you don’t know the roots you don’t get to make comments on it!!!!
Me a native Californian who’s lived in Texas for decades laughing at Texans who don’t realize there is a lot of farm land and a lot of farmers/cowboys in CA
You're a sillier man who think Texas has a hold on what is or isn't the "roots" of country music.... no one has any hold on any true beginnings of any music style's roots.... and I agree with the other person, my mum loved Charlie Pride.
Country music was created with stolen lyrics, tunes and instruments from Black people - so white people can be mad all they want, but it's just another piece of culture stolen from the very people they're mad at (again).
The "Country Music Fans" crying about this thought Toby Keith was the "height of country music". Boots in your ass and red solo cups is the HEIGHT of country. However, I think they misspelled it and meant the "Height of Cuntry"
Love you for stating this!!! There are lots of great country artists out there and we must pay accolades to a great album. Johnny C would love Beyoncé!
In the 40s & 50s, there were Whites listening to Rock & Roll and Teeny Bopper music. But Blacks were listening to Country & Western and Bluegrass. So many people do not realize how C&W and Bluegrass run so deep in African American roots.
And what about this man?! Listen a little closer to "Maybellene"... That's a Country Song, Boys & Girls! Maybe to some, it doesn't sound like it, but It... IS!
Have they also forgotten this Grammy Award Winning Country Singer too? & that this album is in the Grammy Hall of Fame? AND his cover of "I Can't Stop Loving You" won The Grammy (Best R&B) in 1963?
Dear White People, turn off the Fucking Jason Aldean and listen to some "REAL Fucking Country Music!"
Nah, sorry. Chris Stapleton, or frankly even Post Malone was robbed.
Grammy’s is now the same political trash as Oscars: they simply FINALLY gave prize to Beyoncé, even though she didn’t really really deserve it with this one, the same way they gave DiCaprio Oscar for Revenant — not his best work.
Come back in a few years when/if you’ll gain an ability to form your own coherent ideas, string together longer sentences, and actually know what you’re talking about.
A friend posted “how did this not win best country album” and then had a clip of the most generic and forgettable rock song you’ve ever heard but then a guy with a slight southern accent singing.
The Jamaican Creole Bania was a early banjo. So was the West African akonting. Early slaves were stripped of their possessions. Including these instruments similar to what became the banjo. Early banjos began showing up on plantations when the above instruments were copied. Banjos ARE country.
There's a history in country music of the original music being BLUEGRASS/ROOTS and a LOT of that music was derived from things like the banjo. The banjo was used in black "country music" way, way, way back. Rhiannon Giddeons Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiP8Tfa8bB8
A lot of those types wouldn't know real 'traditional' country if it came up and smashed them in the face. All they ever do is listen to the shit on the radio
Jason Aldean is ok but definitely wouldn’t call it real country. Don’t even get me started on Kane brown, Jordan Davis or shaboozie or whatever. Give me Randy Travis, Waylon and Willy any day though
50 years ago these same morons bitched because Olivia Newton-John won a CMA award. Several people including Dolly Parton stood up for her & Stella Parton even wrote a song for her because of it. How many country singers have that kind of honor these days? Not very many. https://youtu.be/xEyR2Uu4Unc?si=Ba61UnOC9I7Dhlsn
Country music, at least back when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, was very distinct and individual. A new song came on, and you could instantly tell who was singing it. Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Dolly, Conway Twitty etc.
Now it's all generic "Man singing" or "Woman singing".
Charlie Pride was very much a part of Country along with Glenn Campbell, Eddy Arnold, Kenny Rogers, Elvis Presley, Mac Davis, Jimmy Dean, John Denver, Crystal Gayle, Roger Miller,,, and many many more There was never a distinction, just evolution...
They're just pissed because she could beat them in any musical genre any day of the week. Hell she could win best male opera singer if she got the itch.
You don't have to listen to just bro country or just long dead legends. Corb Lund, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Brent Cobb, Billy Strings,... there are hundreds. Cheers to Beyonce, she's a real talent, but naw it isnt my idea of country music.
I agree than the pop country- rap music. They gave us during the 90’s . I grew up on 80’s country. Now very few country artists make great music anymore.
But humans would ABSOLUTELY find "some-thing" to ostracize some "other" group over, and keep right on warring. Foot size, hairline level. Ear sizes. Whether the fingers were squarish or slender.
Country music died when George strait quit. I've been in the music business all my life and have seen the changes coming and going but "murder on music row" was George's best effort.
Looks like there are super cells in your area (all along the Tennessee/Kentucky border) tonight and early morning. Tornados possible. Take care and stay safe.
Agree. Longtime country fan here, love artists like Hank, Kris, Dolly, Patsy, etc. This year, Cowboy Carter is the best album I've heard by *anyone*. Beyonce breathes new life into a lifeless genre.
Sturgill Simpson is the doctor in the ER doing chest compressions on said lifeless genre, he's trying, and he's really damned good, but there's too much bro-country to swim through before you get to him
The narrative-based music that we identify as “country” is now called AAA or Americana. Beyonce put out a nice pop record with “ country” cliches on it. Billy Strings won a “ Bluegrass” Grammy for a Greatful Dead record. Times change, but I would offer Townes’ throne is under no threat.
I disagree. She doesn’t breathe life into this genre at all. Because her album is not a country album. But then again, I haven’t heard a whole lot of country coming out of country music radio in the last 20 years anyway.
She was BORN in TEXAS. The first cowboys in the U.S. were BLACK. Black artists have influenced country music from it’s EARLY DAYS. Y’all get a grip, Beyonce is a very talented woman and deserves all the accolades she has.
They hold her to a different level of scrutiny than what they use for straight white cisgendered males. One off key and she's "terrible" meanwhile others can sound like they're strangling a cat and it's "perfect".
The unspoken assumption these racist fuckers believe is that DEI = UNQUALIFIED. So any non-white or female who gets a job they want is always unqualified. It’s white supremacist horseshit. It makes.me.so.fucking.mad.
Yeah, once they figured out that they could use "DEI hire" to replace all their favorite racial, misogynistic, homophobic, ableist, and xenophobic slurs, they quintupled down on it with the enthusiasim of a child opening a birthday present.
I can honestly say I was unaware there were 78M of these people in the US. I’ve always called myself a hopeful realist but this realization has seriously impaired the hopeful part and driven the realist part much closer to pessimism. It’s a foundation-shaker.
I feel like people watch the events of the world through a lens of suspended disbelief. As if they're watching a movie, they react to tragedy as if it's a plot element intended to develop a character arc. They then go to the comments section to leave a review.
Yes! Who knew seeing one school shooting after another onscreen would desensitize us to it? & why didn’t it have the same effect as seeing images of soldiers coffins did during Vietnam? For all the democratizing so many of us (esp in my field of ed) thought tech would do,we couldn’t see this.
I tell everyone that I’m not a Bey fan, because I was never truly her target audience. But once I was, with Cowboy Carter, I understood the hype. Shes beyond talented and that album was beautifully curated from top to bottom
Agree. I can admire Beyoncé’s talent. It is a big production but seems generic and Ad-like - like a bored billionaire singer decided to play dress up and write a concept album… sounds more gospel than country to me. It’s all FINE, but it’s not great and I don’t get the hype.
Country music is something you sing, a style of you will, if one does it better then someone else, then that’s it. Not suing I don’t think B is overrated but she can sing country if she wants and if people like it they can buy it and that’s what wins awards.
I'm not a country fan but I am old, and back in my day country music was about hard times and outlaw heroes and relationship trouble but now it feels like "Look at my $50k pick-up truck. Look at all the chicks I pull. Now get out of my town before Real Anericans™️ kick your liberal ass"
Try that in a small town always makes me laugh because the reality is that most small town pds are inept and that people get away with a whole lot in small towns.
Let's get honest, after the last generation of artist, there is nothing new in this genre.
There is a limit to how many ways the horse and the girlfriend/boyfriend can cheat and find greener pastures.
Stephin Merritt pointed this out at an event last year in NYC, he was making a point about how mad the rap genre even is because you wouldn’t separate books by race. Citing this album as being a full circle, not a hybrid pop categorisation.
Dear Tennessee, did you look after our gold in Fort Knox, Kentucky please and let me know how it's still there and Elon Musk hasn't stole that too because that's what he wants. He wants our gold. I don't blame him. It's only worth $100 trillion and our entire wealth.
True story: He's a suburban Atlanta boy from the upper-middle class northern suburbs who went to the same high school I did before my family moved, he was in my class.
He showed up for the 10 or 15 year reunion - don't remember which but it was after he had become a "star" - with a rent-a-date.
So, he’s kinda like Kid Rock, only actually a Southerner.
I used to sell motorcycle leather goods at various rallys- the flashy fringed ones, were only available in women’s sizes. The company’s owner was an actual 1%er. He had standards, high ones, for quality and style.
There have always been black country artists. This is just pure, Trumpist racism. As is being said recently, mediocre white men who can’t fathom that they’re dinosaurs waiting for the comet.
Way before Charlie. The Carter Family always played with black musicians. Mother Maybelle refused to play the Opry because they wouldn’t let her bring her musicians. Finally the Opry relented.
Charlie Pride had his music playing on the radio without anyone ever mentioning his race. They found out when he walked out on stage at the grand old Opry. He was a remarkable country singer.
Jann Aldean is another cheater on his wife, his family, his child he is the same kinda loser the corrupt thug is. Fuck him his trashy music and his restaurants. Dead to me along with any artist, business.
It’s pop music for the lowest common denominator of US society now. Every song is about objects and things, not ideas or feelings. Beer, trucks, mericuh. It’s all so painfully dumb, the lyrics feel like they’re just pumped out of chatGPT.
This. It’s so boring it makes me want to stab my ears out with a spoon when I’m unfortunately assaulted with it at places I frequent. Cowboy Carter was refreshing.
Honest to god, I will take 100 Heaven and Hells over what Still Loving You by the Scorpions does to my voice, lol. I'm a contralto, so I'm really pushing it with that one.
I'm related to Upchurch the Redneck (I'm part of the TN Upchurch branch, but they don't claim me). The number of HIS fans saying she's not "real country" is just disturbing...
I'm not sure country fans know what country music is actually...
Kris Kristofferson would have kicked Aldean's ass and Johnny Cash would have held his coat while he did it. I'm also reminded of Waylon's remark about that turd Toby Keith.
Some Country music fans and artist miss the days they could pretend
to be black, so they act out like Jason Aldean, John Rich, Kid Rock,Travis Tritt, and the rest of usual crew.
An old friend of mine was a professional musician. I swear he could play any instrument.
He was mostly known as a Jazz Guitarist but he joined a Buffalo Dixieland band playing banjo.
He said it was the most difficult instrument he ever learned to play.
16 Carriages is a beautiful country song. It reminded me of the 1st time a Country Song opened my heart up to the Storytelling in Country Music, The Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. I'll never forget that moment, watching the video and understanding the message.16 carriages resonated for me the same.
Genre purists are in a state of perpetual rage because genre’s are not stable, but are instead constantly being negotiated by artists, listeners, and record companies/distributors. You can hate a genre’s mutations, but that doesn’t mean what you like is “real”and the new thing is “fake.” Also, butts
I read something when Beyoncé's album came out regarding how genre lines were blurring. And someone pointed out that they really needed to look at the history of rock and roll and then maybe not make comments anymore.
Seriously. Black people have been part of country music since the beginning—the distinction between “blues” and “country” and “old time” in those old records is pretty thin and often depended on one conspicuous factor.
Yep!! It was literally been 80's when I learned that artists like Perry Como (whom my friend's parents really liked) had basically gotten famous and rich off of the music of the Black Community. This isn't a new rocket science.
This! I can’t listen to country radio anymore & I’m a country singer. I often listen to rock stations these days or create my own play lists. So much is over produced. Give me a kitchen party! I find people to jam with and we play it all with real instruments!
I don't care for any of the country artists any longer
I still listen to George Jones, Willie and the boys. I don't watch any of the awards shows any longer either.
if rock n roll is the father of teenage sex, country is the father of incest (insert laughter here). Tell that to your favorite cousin fucking red hat wearing twang banger.
No shit! She's from Texas and wanted to make a country album. Country fans don't have cart blanche on country music.
Does Jelly, tattoo face, Roll look like country? Post Malone singing duets with country singers? So shut up country fans or Schmoozy will make another country album.
Last time I turned on pop radio I heard a ‘country song’ that sounded exactly like the time
before that 20 years ago when I turned on pop radio. I would die happy if I never had to hear another song about a truck that sounds like robots dialed in every inch of sound and quashed all the humanity.
Take the time and just listen to the album. If you still come out saying that wasn’t a good album or you don’t understand then you just don’t have a good ear
I'm not a Beyonce fan, but I did listen to it and, wow, just wow. She took the genre back to the roots and then turned it a whole other direction all at once. Only she could do that. It was an experience!
I was never much of a country music fan. But I could handle the reel stuff. But it definitely went downhill starting with Garth Brooks. Pretty much nothing but pop music anymore.

Anyone care to guess?

It just shows you haven’t listened Beyoncé’s album.
If you did you’d quickly realize there’s like 2 country-like songs from album’s 27 “songs”, the rest is generic pop/trip something ‘meh’.
I don’t even care about country music, but it’s just gaslighting.
Come back in a few years when/if you’ll gain an ability to form your own coherent ideas, string together longer sentences, and actually know what you’re talking about.

Signed a loud and proud Charley Pride fan.

Something.

You go suck that…
Many have detached to a point.
Waylon understood the genre and his actions always showed it
Don’t care for Beyoncé’s music but far from offended by it or her
Just not my aesthetic style
Her motivation is important though, so good on her
This shit is funny as hell
There is a limit to how many ways the horse and the girlfriend/boyfriend can cheat and find greener pastures.
You kind of expect it with the woman.
but the country music crowd doesn't give a shit about songs.

I have listed to him on Stern 2 times and he is a uniquely nice guy.
No politics either.
Just shut up and play.
Also, I really enjoyed with your appearance with Luke Beasley.
At this point in Country music, Flavor Flav could put out a train-riding hobo country album that would destroy anything coming out of Nashville.
