realizing i never posted it here….but too long have we been limited by the 2-dimensional political alignment chart. i think by using my new tool we can truly map another person's politics. here it is: The Ideology Cube

I unironically tried to make one of these in university. I also tried to design a success metric that tabulated your success potential based on how different societal norms and prejudices would affect you. I was so weird 😂
To go at this seriously, I've always though that it should be a cube and the three axis should be: economical, social and governmental. These do sometimes overlap, but it would give a much clearer picture.
Ah, excellent question. It's an axis on where you stand when it comes to organising government - so do you want an anarchy, a democracy, an oligarchy or a dictatorship? I'd have to work on a more concrete definition, but an axis anarchy/full democracy against totalitarianism/dictatorship.
"Socially liberal" is actually egalitarian as opposed to authoritarian. Liberal/conservative are economic alignments.
Which is why, at the end of the day, Democratic and Republican economic policies are basically identical and they only diverge over social policies (mostly having to do with sex).
In my experience, the observed possibilities look like one of those black hole graphics, where dead center is a singularity hole into an even more distressing universe, and around the edges is merely an accretion disk emitting spectacularly lethal amounts of hard radiation
It's important to know that the term "libertarian" was coined by French Anarchists in 1883 as a new name for themselves as "anarchist" wasn't going over well with the public. They own the word. No one is authorized to try and redefine it. My source is Barbara Tuchman's "The Proud Tower".
Theoretically, you could create a surface touching all of the nodes in either universe that are annoyed by Matty. Human minds cannot visualize such a surface shape.
These are all subjective labels open to interpretation. many on the right would calm national healthcare authoritarian and many on the left round call the current system of corporate control if healthcare very authoritarian

I like this cube idea.
tl;dr: everyone in america is on the right wing spectrum.

Cringe : this challenges my existing biases
