I'm keeping my FB account alive, but uninstalled the phone app, moved a longstanding Messenger group to another app, and will only pop into FB to remind people that they'll only find me on places other than FB. Trying to decide RE Insta... that'll break my heart. I like IG.
Never did Threads, didn't trust Zuck by the time that came out, and refused to join Whatsapp, that PoS app wanted access to my contacts...nope, with a side of hell no.
800 US billionaires shouldn’t have control over US 340 million population. The tax cuts for the rich are ready to expire, if Trump renews them, he’ll add trillions to our deficit and make the middle and working class pay for them. That’s fucked. How could millions of us vote against our self interest?
I've been working on a message to post on both places about shuttering my accounts... There are so many life-long friends who I only talk to on FB and Insta. I'm so glad to have an account here, but, none of my friends and family are on BlueSky. Many of them are dead to me after this election.
But does he? I thought that guy went away in a huff when he found out that this place does not aspire to be a free speech heaven and instead decided to put blocking and muting functionality into the code.
.... so why'd you stop posting on Mastodon? Waiting to find out that the guy who owns this place is really no better than the guy who owns the other place or the other other place?
Deleted Threads after Zuck's Tweet and only use Twitter because my sports guys have not come over here yet. But I have to be honest, I'm not loving bluesky. Not getting the info I used to get on Twitter
When 26 million people show up at your door all together, it's kinda hard to get up to speed with all those minds.
It's definitely moving forward. Hang in there.
I'm having very mixed results with info on BlueSky. Sometimes it's better here, because there's less noise to wade through, fewer copycats reposting the same headlines and acting like they just broke the news, and a lot fewer crazy takes (although still too many). OTOH, sometimes a
story seems to get missed entirely here. I often find myself taking a look over there for things I don't see here. I do follow "news" here, though, which makes it easier to look for a story without having to put it in general search and wade through 100K opinions looking for basic info.
It'll be a shame if it gets literally as bad. I've blocked so many people on FB that I never even see a MAGA remark, let alone a post in my feed, but I have a few friends there I'd be loathe to abandon.
That's my problem. There are people on Facebook I may never see or hear from again if I am off Facebook, but Facebook has made it so hard to stay. They made me lose my original account which I had for more than a decade. I keep getting moved around the ones I have. Facebook makes Facebook hard.
I worked on the suicide and self injury team there - if they’re going to leave harmful content up, it’s going to cause more teen mental health problems. I hope the EU smacks them into shape.
I think he's gonna try to acquire control of Bluesky so he doesn't feel left in the dust by the kind of billionaires that have 100x more money than he does.
I wouldn't be surprised if I stop using that place by the end of the month. I think I have most of the people I admire and adore over there, on here anyway.
Here is a reminder the time has come for a #nationalstrike against theocratic fascism unless Americans are so spineless they'll leave that fight to their kids & grandkids.
I'd love to see our citizens have the spine for that but it isn't looking too good. I'm biased toward activism. It is what I did for a living, if you can call it that. You make almost no money trying save the planet.
We need a national strike. We need to find a way to designate certain days/weeks/months to avoiding certain companies. We can’t avoid them all the time but big blocks of us can make a difference.
I feel like if we all stopped working for a full week or 2 no matter the industry we can cause a big enough impact to tax revenue that we can make demands. But in order for this to work we all have to have each others back. Stock up on food, water, materials. And only give to those helping us.
Many individuals would be fired if they don't go to work for even a day let alone a week or 2! I think what would be best is to start small such as a "no spend day". No one spends a dime for one whole day. NOTHING. Doesn't sound like much but I believe it would show them what we can together!
They can’t fire everyone though. Not spending still means that your tax dollars are lining the rich and governments pockets. I am paycheck to paycheck and I could care less if I get fired if it’s for the better of our country and the people. I hope more follow suit. The time for change is now.
Very true. I’m here standing to do my part and I welcome anyone willing to join the fight. This is not our America anymore it’s the 1%’s. Time for that to change.
i'm so poor i'm already in survival mode so i don't have much to sacrifice Never had an amazon account Haven't owned an idiot box since 1988 Don't shop at asshole companies like Wally World from jump street etc
i'm already not too involved in the system. i just survive off the scraps of trickle up
Same here. That’s where we need to rely on each other in the ways we can. Since the government won’t help, the courts won’t help, so that leaves us. I will give until I have absolutely nothing left to give. But if we’re gonna do this we gotta all work together. Strength in numbers.
been saying that since trump's first debacle, but yes ma'am. please. i'm so pissed off i perhaps am not the person to promote it because i'll chew a dems ass if the crawfish an inch on this concept.
i've been promoting it here.
half love the idea
others whine and poo poo on the idea

Money corrupts weak people. If nothing else, the oligarchs have shown that great wealth does not guarantee an increase in empathy, compassion, or humanitarian support to those who are struggling in society.
I'd like to go back to the marginal tax rates of that well known Communist Dwight Eisenhower -- 91% federal income tax above what today would be about $4 million a year. Because if you're making more than that you're really just a hoarder. (Of course the John Birch Society called Ike a commie!)
That’s one of the main issues with the American people, they don’t know. their own history let alone world history. They don’t know and they don’t care to know. It’s pathetic.
So why are people still taking up & buying their real estate? Make it make sense! It’s like a car wreck that slows traffic, everyone complains, but they just got to look! Non of these companies has anyone signed a blood contract to be a part! We’re not married to this BS! Divorce & find a new ❤️
Inviting my friends to join here, then I will e leaving that platform. Hoping there will be a Bluesky FB type platform to replace to FB just like it did for X.
All the fake news is already getting through in Facebook. So, now it will get worse. Why an Information Literacy course needs to be taught -- everywhere!
Funny thing about Zuck and Musk is they don’t monopolize any necessitates, people can just leave to a competitor or even create their own. We could directly impact them right now.
It is easy to see that the US is following the same course as Russia did after Putin came to power. If people give permission for the billionaires to take away their quality of life it will probably require violence to get it back. If only more people would pay attention to recent history.
Facebook is the one place where I still regularly interact with conservatives and I won't give that up but Threads has been infiltrated by MAGA who got bored with Twitter because we weren't there to fight with them. Deleted that and Instagram.
I saw essentially this same tweet from you while on threads... thought whats wrong with the bluesky owner?... then realized i was on threads and promptly deleted threads
I am thinking of the young college students who came up with FB. Coming from tech myself, I assumed the challenge and success of building something new was what they were after. Maybe they got bit by the $ …
Marc - I was sad to see you transitioning away from Threads when I first saw you post about it a few weeks ago. This morning, I read Zuckerberg’s bizarre bootlicking thread. This afternoon, I opened my bluesky account. As usual, you were correct.
For a couple of decades, I went to Kings because they were unionized & didn't treat their employees horribly. Now they steal from their customers and steal from their employees, while putting up anti-theft equipment and locking things up like they're the victims.
I finally went to Walmart last week.
I gave up cars years ago because of cost. My husband was a native New Yorker I met in Manhattan. We moved to Spokane where he learned to drive. We switched to public transit. In Seattle public transit is even easier, but I walk a lot. It's a leftover habit I learned when living in Manhattan. Love it
I live in a really weird spot where I have a Kings 1 - 2 miles north, south, east, and west. I'm guessing if they get the merger with Albertsons/Safeway, three of them will close and I'll have to start bringing a book to read while I'm waiting in line.
Our city has two King Soopers, but my side of town is a grocery store desert.
We do have Walmart, but no standard grocery store, on the eastern side of Loveland.
This is the fastest growing part of town and it needs a grocery store.
Where do you live? Is Kings about the same as an Albertsons or a Safeway? I've never heard of it. I'm in Seattle, Washington. I lived in Spokane, on the eastern side of the same state - Washington - bordering Idaho.
Zuck know social media landscapes are literally destabilizing democracies - and he does this anyway. To what end? A few more gold coins in his pocket? What an absolute POS. 💩. The tech bro oligarchy has become a BIG PROBLEM.
Wealth should not be infinite and to the detriment of people who work for a living!
Something must change or billionaires will destroy our beautiful planet for profit!
If enough people would sign off these nauseating apps forever, it would immediately improve the quality of their lives, and reduce the power of media which has been engineered for addiction to further erode public discourse. I don’t go to the homes of ppl I don’t trust…and I don’t use their apps.
Facebook removing fact checkers I saw on news this morning. Why would any good person remove checks on misinformation and outright lying. They want to be part of the oligarchy running this country.
In some ways it will be an improvement. FB "fact checkers" get about half their stuff wrong. You can put up a funny ironic meme that's not supposed to be serious and a fact checker will sometimes point out [e.g.] "according to scientists, cows cannot really jump over the moon."
On twitter and yahoo, I definitely had posts rejected and got suspended on twitter for things that were NOT worthy, so I get what you are saying. But you better believe, Facebook just means maga can post all the lies they want.
Agreed. I haven't been on Twitter for about 5 years, and I go to FB for entertainment stuff, mostly, and a few academic groups, & a group that's helpful with any problems I might have with the particular 30-yr old car I drive. Quora is like that too, full of MAGA lies, antisemitism, etc.
I only recently left Twitter, as Mary Trump thought we shouldn't just give it up to maga, but musk has gone too rotten, and now Zuckerberg too. I will probably delete FB & Instagram soon, but will lose a few helpful groups on FB same as you. And like MarketPlace lol.
I forgot about Marketplace! I bought my current car off there in 2023! I do have a couple of friends on FB I'd hate to lose, too. I got chucked off Twitter a few years back, before Musk bought it, for calling a Louisiana politician -- maybe Kennedy -- a bad name. Haven't missed it.
Someone referred to Musk as, “The Donald Trump of Silicon Valley”… and it wasn’t a compliment contextually. Neither of intelligence nor business acumen.
Basically both hype-merchants.
We're already there tbh. The "social" part of it is pretty insignificant now. For the most part it's about triggering strong emotions, engagement through enragement, climbing to the top to profit off everyone else (basically one big Ponzi scheme)
Both are on the spectrum, too. Not that that means anything bad, but on one of the places being copied by the other place, that owner called someone a "retard" on his place.
Unfortunately, many still don't realise, how all of their data has been sold and used for micro-targeting.
Romania Constitutional Court & EU Commission stopped the count and ate doing forensic analysis.
Social Media (except Bsky) are in the wrong hands.
Because billionaires are by their nature exploitative. As their best, when they do nothing at all but give money to charity, they STILL exploit workers and hard wealth.
Billionaires very existence represent a failure of society to reign in greed. They are a cancer with no possible net benefit.
Companies are now tripping over each other to support & bow down to DonOLD. Meta forgoes fact-checking as too much fuss even if if reduces misinformation.
I'm really starting to believe Elmo is actually worse. It doesn't even seem possible, yet I am certain much of what Trump's been going on about lately have come from Elmo's ketamine-fueled mouth.
Yah. That was a bummer to see. I was dealing with his $1mill bribe to the inauguration as a cost of doing business in an Oligarchy. But putting Dana White on Meta’s board is too far. Stopping content moderation is pretty bad. Sucks because FB is my digital scrapbook of my daughter from 2-18
I will not give up. However, my activism is heading in an unexpected direction. I think we should be encouraging our Dem MoCs to oppose everything. The sooner this all falls apart, the better. Maybe by midterms, the cult will understand what they’ve done. Please follow and comment to our MoCs’ posts
I was able to order most everything I needed for Christmas from individual suppliers or by going to a store. On the plus side, it also saves me money not to be able to instantly order everything.

I switched to shopping local and only used Amazon subscribe and save for my vitamins/supplements. But https://Vitacost.com had everything and a nicer subscription set-up. Bye bye Bezos!
Own my own place and that is an accomplishment in this world. We own our own home. No one can kick us out despite ratings, low users, no revenue, being a selfish bigot, out of touch with real people except themselves .
We have to change this matrix that has us in its grip “When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.” Frédéric Bastiat 1830’s
I heard an animalist ritual with a horse took him out, this is breaking news. We need our list to be accurate, and we need to broadcast and get people away from those sources that feed our oppressors money.

I was part of a peaceful, organized protest against TFG in NYC shortly after the 2016 election, but it didn’t do much good!
Haven’t seen you in forever. Glad you’re on here.
We can all play this game.
Removing fact check is civic malpractice.
Just like grocery shopping. Do I go to Walmart or the local version of Krogers?
Both are huge conglomerates with the same issues.
I finally went to Walmart last week.
I have to drive for a good 15 minutes each way to get to Kings Soopers - which is our Krogers.
We do have Walmart, but no standard grocery store, on the eastern side of Loveland.
This is the fastest growing part of town and it needs a grocery store.
January 20: Quit FB, Instagram, Threads, X.

I’m keeping FB but deleting all of my content. I am not planning to post - just have a couple of communities that I track there and nowhere else.
Basically both hype-merchants.
Thanks for being with all of us Marc, and thanks for Democracy Docket.
