So here it is, my depiction of episode 1 of the wonderful Our Flag Means Death, in the (sort of) style of the Bayeux Tapestry. Only tiny. I adore this show. (You can probably tell). #OFMD

(sorry, was doing some proper work there, bah). I started it on 27th Dec, and spent a lot of hours for the next week working on it, then when I was back at work I fitted it in where I could. My eyes aren't thanking me for it, but I'm sure screwing your face up and squinting is an attractive look?
I posted episode 2 at the weekend (hopefully you can find it) and have just started 3. Definitely planning to do all of the first season, then I'll see if I think I can do Season 2 before it comes off iPlayer ❤️
Ah, thank you! And the plan is to keep going (although this one was mostly done over Christmas when I wasn't working, so the next one might take a bit longer) ♥️
This is probably my favourite bit. When I finished stitching Jim, it was the first time I thought OK, this is going to be OK. But I also have a big soft spot for the first appearance of Lucius (in teeny tiny form) - actually all of the Lucius's, he was a joy to stitch #OFMD
The only time I thought WHY DID I DO THIS SO SMALL?? was trying to capture Stede trying to capture his library books in the storm. I also wish that I'd had space to add the text "Stupid puppet pulled it off" but hopefully I managed to capture that Wee John moment (bottom panel near the end) #OFMD
Anyway, doing this has helped to get me through a really tricky time. Thank you @serpentanddahlia.bsky.social for the encouraging nudge I needed. Again, I adore this show #OFMD
This is AMAZING !!! The amount of details and moments and people and objects you managed to fit it's so impressive !! And the whole finished tapestry looks so cute and cool !! 😲
There are a lot of hands in this episode. Hands are tricky, but SO satisfying if I can get them right. I'm pleased with Black Pete's as he tells his Blackbeard tales with the rest of the crew's in their varying degrees of disbelief #OFMD
And speaking of Hands, here he is! I've left the needle in the first one for scale, as this is about as small as it gets (although technically there is a smaller Stede & Buttons elsewhere in this episode if you look hard enough)
OH MY GOD!!! It looks so good!! I am just in awe of the level of detail you’ve managed to convey doing it so small, and freehand to boot?? Everyone’s mannerisms and body language read so clearly as THEM. I’ve been neglecting my own embroidery for a bit but you’ve inspired me to pick it back up again
Thank you! I had a lot of fun doing it - Lucius in particular was so lovely to stitch. I'm so looking forward to seeing how Izzy turns out in episode 2. And I'm so glad you're back to your embroidery (and thank you again for encouraging me!) ♥️
I would love to see more detail shots if you have them, because Bisky really degrades the image quality and it's hard to zoom in and actually see more.
My eyes have probably been ruined by this, so sorry about doing this to you8. The tiniest Lucius (under Talk it Through As A Crew) is 5mm tall, the tallest Stede is 2.5cm (1")
The plan is to keep going (I am excited to see how Izzy turns out in episode 2....). Might have to have a little break first but then I will be keeping going.
This embroidery is awesome! This is a rare skill, to replicate they Bayeux Tapestry and tell the story of Our Flag Means Death. IF you know your art history or related, this will blow your mind! So refreshing to see such clever usages of history, crafts, story-telling from screen to thread. Wow. ❤️🧵
Hon this is beyond amazing, do you mind if I spotlight it in the fan spotlight section of the @ofmdrecaps.bsky.social we do? If not, no worries, just figure id ask! I can link to whatever socials yad like.
Oh, thank you so much! That was my favourite Stede too - I don't practice them first as if I do a good one I can never recreate it, so it took a bit to get into my stride with Stede - happy I got it at the end 😊

Are you planning on doing more/one for each episode?
I love it
EPISODE 2 A Damned Man
Thank you for sharing it, and for so clearly pouring love into it.
I’m planning to do something similar, but ancient Egyptian style 😁😁😁
@thesearethekids.bsky.social have you SEEN THIS???
