That’s because the New York Times is a victim of audience capture. When you’ve lost normal readership, and the only way you can make money is by fluffing conservatives, then that is what you are going to do.

The bulk of New York Times readers are conservative. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it.

I think NYT is obviously still top dog, but Playbook today is especially gross with a breathless “wow what a rush!” play-by-play that includes bullets like “He is definitely breaking the law” and “This guy has energy!” and “Elon now has unprecedented power”

I believe in criticizing the NYT. I still have a subscription so I read some great journalists, take some with a grain of salt, and I criticize resoundingly. But when journalists attack each other, who wins? The end result is further erosion of public trust in the media overall. Poor form.

We should criticize the media. We should not accept criticism from editors of competing publications. It’s as bad as blue anon telling you to block any media outlet on here. “Listen to me, don’t listen to them.”

Overall the NYT has a bigger audience (11 million subscribers) more popular acceptance, larger brand, not to mention the financial difference. They generated $2.59 billion in revenue & $104 million in profit in 2024.

The problem is there is better reporting but there are just so many independent sites and journalist so it's really hard to keep up with them all, let alone support them all.

Competition for tight money can lead to click bait/ sensationalized reporting that plays into MAGA's narrative about media

I agree. The article talks about how reaction from almost all quarters has ranged from dismissive to combative. And it points out he’s already backtracked. The headline writers, like Trump, function in a “clickbait” world. Also in this environment, it is hard to accept any “neutral” stance approach.
