Like, maybe muttering about egg prices is the best way to win back normie voters, I don't know, but I would like to see the party making it clear that they intend to hold people accountable for what they do now and that they have a plan to try and fix what's being broken.

If nothing else, "We will not forget this, and you will regret it" is a stronger, more appealing message than "This is terrifying and bad!! Help!!" and it gives people an outlet for constructive energy.

And fundamentally, a democratic republic can't survive if it lets this kind of thing slide.

When friends ask me what to say to their Sen./Rep. I've been suggesting they include the fact that they *will* be calling back to follow up on this, definitely going to incorporate "and I will be remembering come primary season/election season" too

Make it clear that what they do now will be recorded and that there will be consequences. There is no incentive for societal actors not to defect right now. Change that. That doesn't conflict with normal politics, but that won't matter if the whole fucking system collapses.

They have too many times promised consequences but failed to deliver. The promise is no longer credible due to the Dems' past cowardice and failure. Action and consequences, immediately and with utmost vigor, are what's needed: only then will "making it clear" be credible.

Yeah my only real messaging complaint is that they need to focus more (and a number of them already are tbc) on the fact that they have many groups in the coalition and it's not that hard to push more on targeting different groups with different topics

I'm split on this. The steps that will actually have to be taken will look draconian to a lot of voters, and I think we are going to flame out if we spend the next 2-4 years messaging on what looks like revenge. Hard circle to square and I don't know what the right path looks like.

One thing I always remind myself is that even if normie Dem politicians say all the right things and no one hears them anyway due to the media being right wing. WE have to make enough noise that some mainstream media will figure out where the energy is.

There's a distinction between what state Dems can do versus the Congressional minority. Governors like Pritzker have displayed a willingness to throw every tool they have at the problem (ex: his EO barring all J6 rioters from state employment). But not opposing Trump nominees is just a horrid look

"Once we have power again" is an assumption that won't just happen on its own. The far right is pumping an enormous amount of money and time into making sure Democrats won't get power again. We have to start by fighting that, imo.

Tangentially related but I always wondered what would happen if democrats adopted the phrase make America great again. Conservatives have too much of a monopoly on twisting word definitions (‘woke’, ‘critical race theory’). I want that sort of revolutionary fervour but for universal healthcare
