It’s very unlikely that the EU would allow the UK to cherry-pick its way into the SM and CU. Nor would the project of being a European rule-taker be saleable in the UK. The only answer is for the UK to rejoin the EU with no ifs and buts.

EU are never going to agree to Single Market and Customs Union outside full membership. It shows a lot of ignorance to keep seeing the suggestion made. UK will have to pick the one that best serves the economy.

A customs arrangement for Northern Ireland could be considered.

The EU would require a referendum for that and support by all major parties, because we would need to trust that the Tories/Reform UK are obedient little rule takers. I can't see that happening, which is why SM membership is not really a politically viable option anymore.

And the reason why I say the euro is because the euro vs the pound was the source of a lot of UK obstructionism in the EU - which is why we have progressed much further since the UK left. We do not want the UK back unless it's a team player.

No it would not. The EU gets to decide whether they accept an application or not. And given we divorced already once, the EU is not going to waste any time on a repeat performance that would result from a parliamentary decision. The UK population has to accept the ever-closer union with the euro.

The SM and CU are very different things.

The case for joining the SM is overwhelming and needs to happen because it would smooth cross-border trade. The case for joining a CU is far weaker because we would to have tariffs stuff like citrus fruit and olive oil which we don't grow.

Correct. But they are also tariff free today under the UK-EU trade agreement. Remaining outside of the CU allows the UK to remove tariffs on those products regardless of where they are imported from - including the Southern hemisphere where the growing season is opposite to Europe's

Most tariff regimes adjust tariffs and have low or no tariff quotas for countries that supply goods out of season. This is certainly the case for the EU and is particularly true for fruit. I don't recall UK having problems when a member state.

look into fiat and sovereign currencies or how governments like the UK, US, Australia etc create money/debt or that taxes don't actually pay for anything.
