The UK puts a 10% tariff on USA cars. We don’t import anywhere near as many as we export. Would it make sense to remove that tariff and demonstrate to Trump that his one is no longer appropriate.

The EU is not just about trade when it best suits the UK. We are not a revolving door. You have to stick around not just because it suits you in that particular moment!
We would strongly like the UK to rejoin now that any illusion of "special relationship" has been hung, drawn, quartered, buried, dug up, resurrected, killed again and reburied.
The fly in rejoining the EU might be that without corresponding origin rules, then this just becomes a logistics exercise in routing supply chains to US via lowest tarriff countries. So with "UK" goods receiving low tariffs, potentially cue goods from Ireland, EU & China being routed via UK..
Plus the tariff rate does not depend on routing. It depends on country of origin. Chinese goods routed via the port of Rotterdam will be (and always have been) charged the CN rate not the EU rate.
That was my point around origin rules. 😉 EU is very specific on this, hence Chinese goods would be subject to EU tariffs coming into EU through Rotterdam. However, one of the reasons some SE Asian countries were targeted was because they were routing CN goods thru 3rd countries to US.
The moment we re-joined the EU, the 20% EU tariff rate would apply to goods coming from the UK. The only reason the UK has a separate tariff rate is because it is not in the EU. EU member states are not listed separately on Trump's chart.
If the only good thing that comes out of the clusterfuck that is the present US Regime is the UK returning to the EU, that will at least be one hugely positive change for the world and Europe. Grasping at the positives where I can find them.

As a Brit I agree. I can understand the pressure to disengage from EU bureaocracy. But to just throw the towel in and sit in a corner and sulk was the worst possible outcome.
The TUC need to stop affiliating to Labour and being complicit in the cull of the vulnerable. Labour are not centre left or centrist they are hard right no matter how much they lie to the contrary. They do not protect employees, jobs, or small business. They support Trump and Oligarchary.
Trump is the biggest threat to the USA and all of our Allies. Britain and Europe needs to do whatever is necessary to protect themselves from Trump/GOP! US citizens need to do our part to save the USA from an anti-Democratic regime (Rump/GOP)
