Uh, yeah. I am not American, but Garland never misses, and that movie captured a layer of American rot (cultural and media) that Americans themselves seemingly didn't recognize. It's an all-time savage takedown of media as well.

Ha. I should probably actually watch this movie, finally. It's been defended so fiercely in some quarters and dismissed so airily in others I was never sure what to think. But I don't really expect sophisticated politics from cinema so I'd probably appreciate it.

Just based on his other work, I don't think Garland is a deep thinker or fantastic writer of dialogue or anything. But I certainly stick up for, say, "Annihilation" all day just for its pure visceral wallop.

Her death is super dumb. Her just standing there long enough for Cailee Spainy to take her photo was dumb. if she had to die it should’ve been quick/more of a tragedy

No I do get why they did it, and I liked her taking the photo- I just don’t like how long it was. To me part of the story was about the need for people to document these “blink and you miss it” atrocities. Idk, I just think if they had given her a less movie death it would’ve been more satisfying
