Because I’d rather believe in the possibility of a nation than can fight to continuously refine “all men are created equal” into justice and equity for all, than believe that it just can’t exist

OK, but... we can do that in Europe? We've, at considerable cost, learned some things, and it feels a little like you're learning those same things now.
When all this is over, would being an equal partner with us be such a bad thing?
If it helps even a tiny bit, from someone who has close friends and colleagues from 30 years of working with the US, we *know* this is a temporary glitch. We just have to survive it...
America elected Trump not once but twice and failed to prosecute him for insurrection, failed to codify reproductive rights for women and so much more...
"all men created equal" my arse that never existed.
America was never EVER exceptional.
I think we can believe in those sentiments and fight for them to become a reality, without believing that that makes us exceptional, and immune to failure. Indeed, knowing that we can fail should make us willing to fight harder.
America has done exceptional things, that is without question. However, "American Exceptionalism" has been built on Native "removal" for the land, and human enslavement for the labor. In the modern age, we mainly hold sway due to our massive military and simpleton consumer culture. So, yeah...
I left Twitter when Elon took over. Your account was one of the accounts I missed following. I finally decided to give bluesky a try and our account was one of the first I looked up.
Sure, it CAN exist. We had our shot. It was a good, long run. We came up short. Not a surprise, given our revolutionary roots, our contrarianism, our fierce individualism (i.e. inherent selfishness as seen in America First thinking), our belief that our shit don't stink (i.e. "exceptionalism").
I haven't given up on the idea. I just don't think it will happen here. We've proven ourselves incapable of the task. The first Trump election was a warning shot. The second was a shot to the head.
I would like to agree with you. When I look at our history, I see a founding based on rich white guys who wanted to keep their money (largely earned on the backs of black slaves) so they went to war to gain "freedom and independance" from paying taxes.
Right behind you, man. The way I see things? Right now we're seeing a desperate, frantic clawing of power by people who either realize that their ideas are unpopular, or just believe that sincerely in their own superiority. Is it a "final" fight against this? Dunno. But /they're/ acting like it is.

Any country can do that
I don't even know that you need a country to do that
It’s up to us. It won’t without us.
We believe it should exist and can exist. We have to do it every day.
It’s up to us.
