The US military has removed photos of the B-29 bomber “Enola Gay” — which dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan — apparently because it contains the word “gay,” which violates their new anti-DEI rules.

The new VA secretary spoke to PBS. I worked at VA headquarters from 2009-2012 and can tell you a few things: 1. He's lost and has no idea how the Department of Veterans Affairs actually works 2. He will oversee the most significant degradation in services since the 1970s 3. Veterans need to prepare

Parlatore represented not only Eddie Gallagher after he was accused of murdering a prisoner in 2017, but also fellow SEAL Team 7 chief Nicholas Olson, who, on Team 7’s next Iraq deployment in 2019, exposed himself to one female sailor and pressured a second not to report her rape by another SEAL

A small drop in an ocean of suck, but for the past few weeks friends have let me know that my book (Divided Armies), along w/ related articles + briefings, was removed from DoD reading lists & curricula for being "too woke" Now JFQ has literally "unpublished" its review & any mention of the book ⬇️

The National Security Archive sued the State Department for access to cables from the Dissent Channel, which are formal critiques of US policy by employees of the State Department. Click here to read more about that: nsarchive.gwu.edu/briefing-boo...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Trump administration plans to cut over 80,000 employees from Veterans Affairs, according to internal memo.

Everything is unbelievably stupid, and among this is Joint Force Quarterly being forced to unpublish multiple articles and some entire issues as far back as *2006* because of "DEI material"

This is a fantastic op-ed on why diversity does in fact make the US military stronger, more capable, and more lethal

Apropos of nothing, let me give a shout-out to all the British and French troops who served with me in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A Thousand Snipers in the Sky: The New War in Ukraine - 70% of Ukrainian and Russian casualties now inflicted by drones, replacing artillery - drones now kill more armored vehicles than all other weapons *combined* - Ukraine built more than 1 million drones in 2024, aiming for 3-4 million thus year

Terrific piece by @kschake.bsky.social , but painful to read: "Ukraine will have to fight a different kind of war without the US. Its cities will experience more destruction & its citizens more civilian casualties". European states that don't face immediate attack should send air defence to UA now!

For those historians keeping track, esp #milhist folks, “history” is now a flagged word bc of its apparent connection to #DEI. Canary in a coal mine, indeed. @smh-historians.bsky.social 🗃️ www.tpr.org/military-vet...

An important thread on an important book.

When you are going back on core values (especially this one which is foundational to the others), it's an ethical failure.

⚡️ If anyone is “playing World War III,” it’s Vladimir Putin, Macron says “He brought 10,000 North Korean soldiers to Europe. He begged for Iranian drones, aiding their nuclear program in return—to wage war in Europe.”

For no particular reason

Your public service is valued. All y’all.

The big problem with measles is it's one of those viruses that causes "immune amnesia" making you very vulnerable to other infections and potential immune dysfunction for 2-3 years after occurrence. And immune problems can snowball into major chronic disease. asm.org/Articles/201... 🩺 #MedSky

Civilian control of the military is a core tenet of liberal democracies. The friction and struggle of this relationship garners more attention on the role of uniformed leaders. That leaves out a necessary component for civilians: that the execution of control be responsible, professional, informed 1

Three years ago, Russia launched an attack across the borders of #Ukraine. As Russian troops drove down roads in the hope of a short war & a victory parade in Kyiv, they received a mighty surprise. Reflections on 3 years of this full scale war. mickryan.substack.com/p/three-year...

Really great @milwritersguild.bsky.social board meeting this morning…2025 is shaping up as a great year for the Guild’s community. Expect new members to be announced in the beginning of March, awards to be announced this summer (noms open now!), and a host of new opportunities to be announced soon!

Another good battle study by John Spencer. His work is always worth reading and learning from. I know I do! @WarInstitute #Ukraine mwi.westpoint.edu/the-battle-o...

Beyond the 46% of DoD civilians that are veterans, another (not insignificant) % are spouses of active duty military service members. Beyond that, all of these civilians serve our nation and swear an oath to our Constitution. Their service is valued. We could not do our mission without them.

WRITERS: I am launching a movie column at @militarydotcom.bsky.social, tentatively titled 'Theater of War.' I am looking for compelling analyses of war movies new and old, whether it's of a specific scene or a broader theme. Send pitches to jared.keller [at] monster dot com

A Financial Times investigative documentary has found evidence that Russian executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war are not isolated incidents but are likely to be part of a broader pattern that points to a systematic policy. Watch the full documentary here: on.ft.com/3Qs7oDW

For this story we spoke to multiple U.S. troops, as well as Afghans — who were granted the use of aliases or partial names for fear of jeopardizing safety of family members in Afghanistan — who assisted the U.S. during the war Those interviewed say executive orders now endanger their families

“This paradigm favors the defender; it punishes decisive battle and humbles tactical leaders who believe they can simply suppress, breach, and seize their way to victory.”

Russian officials at the bilateral meeting also continued to signal the Kremlin's unwillingness to negotiate on the war in Ukraine and determination to achieve its maximalist objectives in Ukraine. 🧵(1/7) isw.pub/UkrWar021825

"Mr. Trump’s best friends are those who point out that provisions Mr. Putin most objects to are those most necessary to guarantee peace. The issue isn’t getting the Russian leader to the table but getting him to honor an agreement.”

"People who like to sound tough reflexively back the guys with guns over the guys in jeans with sacks of grain or the guys in suits with papers. But take it from someone who spent nearly 1,500 days downrange over the course of 20 years: USAID is worth every penny."

"Over 4 years [of Trump's presidency], there was no Russian aggression." Er, not quite. 🧵

This seems normal….right?

A bit of professional disappointment that Wired beat me to it. But glad the info is out. I can confirm the key details of this report based on my own reporting -the name of the DOGE operative and that yes the reports about read only access is categorically false. Not only does Marko have full …
