The overreaction of Army leaders to an overly vague EO speaks volumes.

The Army deleted my “Why I served” video where I talked about how I decided I wanted to attend West Point/join the Army after one of the cadets my family used to sponsor died in combat. Probably deleted because she was the first black woman to be CSM at West Point.

I think you’re missing something obvious to me for half a century: the army brass has always leaned right, often right up to the line of overt, obvious Fascism, liberally peppered with racism and misogyny. They are now liberated to do without fear what they have always wanted.

As an Air Force guy (ret) I always found Army Os to be centrists on the whole. Ran into a few overt RW types but ran into many more RW types in the USAF.

I remember dealing with a lot of Evangelical Fascists — by no means every O I worked for as an NCO closely enough to hear the politics, but too many. Especially as Fox News became normative in military spaces.

Yep. I’m USMC, my father was Army, stepfather Navy, two sibs Air Force. Air Force by far the most RW with heavy emphasis on religion.

My biggest exposure to the Navy was in the 1980s. Many of those I worked with could not understand why Tail-Hook became such a stain.

Paula Coughlin, who was assaulted eventually resigned. Too much retaliation. She sued the Tailhook Assn and the Hilton. Each settled, an admission of guilt but AFAIK the Navy never took responsibility. No one went to jail. Chain of command” investigating included men who were AT the party.
