"Protect our children! " they scream as on his first day he pardoned the guy responsible for Silk Road, a website that industrialised the sale of CSAM and illegal firearms, as well as drugs.
I will say that I was too young when I read 1984 the first time, not in the sense that it damaged me somehow, but in the sense that I lacked the maturity to appreciate it. But I don't regret it.
but they can find it online. why ban the physical when it exist in the digital. i swear the people that don't understand technology should just step aside.
Tell me you haven't without telling me you haven't read it. We are living in the age of thought-speak with no objective truth - whatever the orange god says to his followers is the truth in the moment to them. It's right out of 1984 and has nothing to do with communism. 🙄
I’ve read 1984 multiple times and I’ve also read a lot of Orwell‘s other work. The man was a rapist, a racist, and an anti-communist, three things that always fit pretty snugly together.
It's anti-authoritarian. Communism need not be dictatorial. A democratic workplace fights for worker's rights and fits well into a democratic society. We need real democracy, not the fake two party democracy of contemporary America. Back unions and progressives, spread the word.
To paraphrase the book "Winston could not remember a time when his country wasn't at war."
It also details the correlation of sexual repression with political orthodoxy, and how their secret rendezvous helped them think clearly & break free from the nationalism.
I absolutely LOVED that book as a kid. I think it gave me a solid foundation on whats wrong and right levels of control/governance etc.
But I was from a house with a nice diverse library in the living room. If I remember correctly I was trying to read through Catch 22 at age 7 cos I liked the cover.
Look, it's not ok to read books about trans & other marginalized peoples' experiences...but it's absolutely ok to harass them, doxx them, threaten them, post violent memes, call them mentally ill when you gaslight them for being upset about the harassment, & then read THAT on the internet.
God forbid we try to do something good for the under privileged. Meanwhile these wealthy cucks are hoarding and wanting more 🤦🏾♂️ like wtf else can they steal from people?

Spoiler: It doesn't end happily.
Thoughtcrime is how they treat any idea they do not share, they demand that people be protected from information that makes them think.

And I doubt it is despised by many communists these days; I never hear any of the sort.
I hear criticism of the author, not the book.
As leftist I say it is excellent. From the eternal war where the enemy is irrelevant, to the linking of sexual repression & political orthodoxy.
Winston realizing that his party training has dehumanized him more than any prole is a heartbreaking moment.
