After 2016, I told my husband this country would not vote for a female president in my lifetime. I hate that I seem to be right despite feeling hopeful in the past three months.
Me too. Exactly that. I thought the devastation done to women and girls would have taught people something. I fear we will discover that, again, white women voted for him. I hope I’m wrong, but fear I’m right.
It appears that it was not just white women, Latino wives voted for him a lot, and as far as I know, most of my Asian friends were also big fan of Trump.
They wouldn’t care… have you seen that young people are voting for trump too and it’s not just young boys? I guess dems are so good at cleaning up the mess so none of them actually faced the consequences. Let’s just hope they’ll learn their lesson in the next 4 years.
This is so disheartening, I wish I didn't have American citizenship at all, this is so shameful, they learned nothing from the 4 years that this man ruined America, all because he lied saying that he's going to save the economy. May God have mercy on their souls.
But there is literally nowhere safe to go. Putin threatens Europe. Africa has numerous wars. South America is run by dictators? Perhaps Asia? But China is ascendant there, as well.
When Harris stepped in, I expressed fear that she'd end up becoming "that woman." Because people who refused to vote for Clinton said they'll vote for a woman, just not that woman.
Disagree. The democrats could have won if she didn’t ignore the Arab-American vote, stopped supporting Israel’s war, addressed climate, and energized the left of her base. Instead she went for Republicans.
I'm as left as you can be, but it is obvious that the majority of the country is far right. I agree she pandered to the right, as they always do, but he has a 5 million popular vote lead. The country is clearly more Republican than we realized. Apparently she didn't go far enough right and a woman.
Also disagree. The amount of disenfranchised voters combined with voters who voted third party because she’s aligned with Biden on Israel and ignored the left base of her party, is incalculable. If you seek to inspire, you can make up that vote.
nobody voted jill stein lets be for real, 95% of dems voted blue and 94% of rep voted red. independents shifted hard to the right and that's the difference. biden lost on kitchen table issues and trump pounced. kamala entered too late and got all the bad baggage of biden without any of the positives
If you wanna simplify it to this, feel free but personally know a TON of people and young voters who would either a) not vote or b) vote third party (PSL and Cornel West included) rather than vote for Kamala. We’ll never have the full number of what she could have gotten/convinced of independents.
the one silver lining (which is massive) is trump's successes draw largely on democrat incompetence in the economy and his own cult of personality. after 4 years the republicans lose both of that. desantis vivek cruz and vance are all candidates that are dead end candidates for the republicans.
Even with the threat of Trump, Democrats refused to change. They’re backing a military that has killed more civilians than any militias/armies in the Axis of Resistance combined in the past year, and they thought the public wouldn’t care. This is the price, and they knew it all along.
Or is it the fault of the people who didn't vote for the wonderful, kickass, strong woman -- who would have given everyone a seat at the table, and listened to them.
… yes. The logic is clear to me. Democrats have been lying to their base for far too long, about including everyone at the table especially. They’ll include you, but they won’t hear you, and people are sick of it. Again, the path to victory here was clear. They chose to not take that path.
Have you not been seeing the limitless support for an apartheid state in Israel, not only costing US Taxpayers $$$, but also millions of civilians killed, injured, missing, displaced???? Who votes for that? Who wants to sit at that table?
Steven. Do you understand what you will get under Trump?
It will be IMMEASURABLY worse.
He does not believe in a two-state solution for Palestinians. He believes that the territory of Israel belongs only to Israel -- and uses "Palestinian" as an insult.
Because voting for trump means the climate will be fixed, the Israeli war will end, and he will be friendly towards ordinary Arab Americans? Why would anyone think that Republicans will do more than the Democrats?
Absolutely not. But voting for Democrats when they’re actively not listening to you, reinforces their behavior. A vote for the less of two evils is so stupid. How about NOT BEING EVIL!? I wonder how many votes you’d inspire then?
Where? To NY, dummy? That’s where I’m from. Lol. And don’t worry, might exit the country myself since we have a population convinced that is so uninspired that it is okay with more elections focused around two parties that will never have the interest of the people at the forefront.
Yes!! I said this when Biden was pushed out, we were kidding ourselves that an African American/South Asian could win the presidency. Absolutely no shade to VP Harris, it is devastating to me that Americans are so embedded in their misogyny.
With all due respect, shut the fuck up. Trump was crushing Biden in the polls too. The problem is they’re weak pussies who missed the chance to bury him under Gitmo when they had it. Republicans are right to see them as weak vs foreign enemies when they can’t even handle domestic ones.
Exactly. Rejected by both men and women alike. Exist bias really runs deep in this country. So deep that people are truly unaware of their sexual racism.
me too. And I defer to other similarly aligned folks with a lot more experience than me when it comes to organizing (this is how you can tell I'm not grifting)
but breaking through the denial and engaging with reality is the first step towards victory, I do know that.
Does this help explain why the Tories have had four women and two non-white leaders, while every leader of Labour since its creation has been a white male?
But also the hateful people will vote for their party no matter what, as long as the leader is promising more hateful stuff, because that is their priority. Shame the left can't get over its misogyny problem the same way.
I’ve really got nothing else. I can’t think of anything she could have done better, or he could have done worse. As Patton Oswalt put it in 2016, America is more sexist than it is racist, and it’s pretty fucking racist.
I said that in 2020 when Hillary was running, and I actually thought, with the enthusiasm, maybe this time it would work. Harris also didn't have the baggage of being HILLARY CLINTON. But no. I suppose that's what I get for actually being hopeful.
Sooo, now Merchan has to jail him and Edolf, Biden has to expand SCOTUS and lock military secrets away and Kamala has to delay the certification.
Mike Johnson is no longer the Speaker.
By a fortunate turn of events, we had a smart, capable female pm at a time of multiple crises. She did well but it has become very obvious it really was too much to digest to many men. Most sadly, to many (older) women, too. 😔
Any female who’s ever interviewed anywhere/worked anywhere knew that right? I mean, that’s what, “I just don’t know enough about her” was coded language for. FFS
I said that day ONE when Biden said he wasn't going to run, and dems started pushing Harris. I was 99% confident that was a sure-fire victory for Trump. But all the pundits and news outlets were saying her gender isn't going to make a difference. What an utter face slapping moment for dems.
I'm watching Louder with Crowder and he had an analyst on who said that in one of the key battleground states that black women turned out in record numbers for Harris, but they couldn't flip enough white women voters. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if sexism really was a factor.
I’m reeling that the Madison Square Garden hate fest, all the racist rhetoric of the Trump campaign at the end did not turn away enough voters to matter, maybe it attracted voters. That depresses me.
I think it's more than that. It's men don't want to be told the world doesn't revolve around them anymore. Not just older men, but young men, first time voters. They felt they were being picked on. A woman "telling them what to do" is only part of it. Men are feeling victimized and voted accordingly

Now think about the number of times someone said that about Trump.
A lot has changed, but not much has changed.

Fascinating logic.

But embracing fascism willingly... There is no forgiveness.
This is who we are.

No man was gonna beat this disinfo machine either.
BRIC has been slowly winning a non-violent war against the West.
It hasn't worked since 1988 and they keep wanting it to work.
What do we do?
but breaking through the denial and engaging with reality is the first step towards victory, I do know that.
What the fuck were they thinking?
Mike Johnson is no longer the Speaker.
It always was. A black female is much worse, I think.
Can you imagine Stephen Miller back in there?
It's really dismaying
