I tried not to doompost either, but failed 😔 I wanted this social media to be positive and clean of hatred and negativity.. but.. that was just wishful thinking.
Yeah... and the consequences are coming fast. In 3 months virtually everyone will be shrieking about how things are deteriorating and, I dunno. Part of me blames the Trumpers and non-voters, but I know that Biden and Democratic leaders did their best to lose the election. Feels bad. Really bad.
For some reason this reminded me of To the Vanishing Point.

The opposition party is utterly cowed. The backstops have steadily eroded thanks to decades of neglect or been actively sabotaged. There's no cavalry coming to save the day
At this point one of the "best" outcomes is all of Trump's plans/dumb ideas combining to create a situation so horrible and impossible to ignore that Republicans get fucked hard in the midterms and either finally push back (unlikely) or don't and lose again in 4 years.
(Not that Dems are great or whatever, but them taking power after a ton of Americans realize how dangerous and evil conservatives are these days might lead to some good things as politicians try to win people back with better policies and plans.)
They suck in so many ways, but are a more diverse group of people who can often be bullied by voters into doing the right thing. Which is better that the current GOP. Both options suck but reality sucks
I think one point is accelerationism and simple antistatusquo (and who can blame them) was a biggg part of the vote, and it can turn much more easily than true believers, and it eventually will.
yes, it feels like even if Democrats win in 2028 it'll be "trans politics are unpopular right now, we cant afford to repeal any of the anti trans bans this election cycle," the overton window has shifted due to the GOP blasting an entirely unopposed narrative, over 50% of democrats dont support now
Unfortunately we ain't on some dark desert highway with cool wind in our hair. I mean, smells of colitas may be in the air but I don't see no shimmering light in the distance.
I am 75% sorry for this post as horrible pun humor is a coping mechanism for me.
Hard to explain how dumbo wasn't stopped, or taken out. Remember, he himself said he could shoot someone and would be okay because he has immunity. What has become of the USA?
It's absolutely fucking awful and I hate it. It's also tough because most progressives clearly don't yet accept the full reality of what has happened. This defeat is durable and enormous, and our ability to vote our way out of it in 2 or 4 years is going to be nearly non-existent.
It really does. I’ve been trying to boycott all news and their associated BS to alleviate my stress but it is damn near impossible and also irresponsible I think at this time. It sucks.
It’s OK to feel this way and you’re definitely not alone. I have my days and I have my down days where it all just feels hopeless and nobody is coming to rescue us.
I dunno. I'm a white Midwestern mom and I'm completely radicalized. To the point where I'm making contingency plans in the evening for how we'll function when I'm in jail. I can't be the only one. Those interested in direct action will find each other soon. Others will use other means to resist.
In other words, I'm not content to believe we're just going to be carried along. For each of us, a red line will be crossed, one we didn't even realize existed for us. And we may feel compelled to take action we never would've dreamed of a year ago. Perhaps not all of us. But perhaps enough of us.
I read someone say the feeling is like after the plane hit the second tower and we all realized what was happening was absolutely really happening and I’m haunted by the accuracy of that feeling.
Because Musk and Starlink had something to do with 47 winning. I will never believe it wasn't rigged. But we couldn't call it that, because the other side did. We always have to try to be above it. So, people are just turning a blind eye to his obvious cheating, and here we are.
The problem is that if everyone gets hopeless & gives up, people will be murdered… I urge you & everyone else not to give in to this hopelessness. Others are counting on you.
This is how I feel every time someone says "it's going to be a long 4 years" or writes about the way history will remember the actions of villains in this moment
What makes you think this period of obvious catastrophe and despotism will be over in 4 years? How much time do you think we have left?

If they get thrown in jail they’ll probably send postcards about working across the aisle and civility.
If it ever actually dawns on them who screwed them all hell will break loose.
I don't think they're that smart.

Well said..
We'll be stuck with presidents just as old and just as bad as everyone that came before them.
And if that doesn't work.
There will be blood.
All of us, as 70 million+ antifascist voters, absolutely can.
😭😭😭
I hate Trump!!!!!!
