One of our cats does it too — he’s hunting and announcing he’s caught his prey, even though he’s a little baby guy and it’s a crinkle. The nighttime instinct, I spose.
My cat does the same thing. My friend says she's waiting to be praised for her hunting prowess, but when I do, she looks at me like mind your own business I'm in the middle of something
My mom's cat did it with a small stuffed dinosaur she found. It was not a cat toy but she would carry it and sing every night.
Our old cat Rosie did the same this with a Grumpy cat plushie.
I miss the old fleabags 😢
direct play doesn't always work! my cat "dislikes playing with me", but loves when i leave a toy out and then she can chase it about herself for the next 15min then she announces it and i congratulate her for catching it. she's always so proud
We blame our cat's mournful yowls on a terrible fear of ghost mice, which appear to haunt her. If you say GHOST MOUSE! to her, she spins around, looking for it.
One of ours used to do that. And then we realised that she wasn’t carrying her toys, she was carrying her brother’s favourite toys and was trying to get him to come and play with her. She stopped when he died. 😢
Charles pre-bedtime ritual has always been to bomb around the house while growling like he's got a straight-pipe exhaust.
Once watched him t-bone a corner post while doing a midair 180° at the end of his lap; was enough to make my partner and I wince but he just kept ripping it up 🤷♀️
If she brings them to you after the screaming she's gifting you her hunting successes because you're a dumb human who doesn't know how to hunt or feed yourself (in her mind 😉). We lost our cat who did this in 2023. I still miss seeing what toys we were gifted with overnight
Came to say this. I’ve got my own little huntress. But, she’s combined her hunting with her separation anxiety. If we leave her alone in a room, she howls as if to bribe us to come back with her fresh kill. She does it when one or both of us leaves, too. Like we’ll just turn around.
She's bragging about what a good hunter she is. Tell her how amazing she is and how pretty and graceful, and how much you appreciate her providing for her family.
My cat gets sad when she thinks she is alone, wanders crying with her stuffed fish in her mouth and then gets embarrassed when she remembers I work from home!
Same, and not just at night, and not just toys. She steals socks and has laid claim to a long piece of ribbon she drags around in her mouth. She’ll prance around if I loosely wrap her in it, but it doesn’t last long
That is adorable! My son had a cat growing up who used to steal all my hair ties and hide them. I’d move a chair to vacuum and find like 30 underneath. They are so bizarre. Do you just have one, or multiples for extra fun?
With this guy about once every couple of weeks in the night he'll grab the plush rabbit golf head cover that he ignores the rest of the time and drag it over whilst yowling his head off. Not sure how he manages to do both.
I'm glad this is a thing and not just one of mine being special. She does this when she thinks we've left her alone or when the other cat is sitting on her favorite lap. Drama
she's "hunted" and she's proudly announcing that. i congratulate my dumb delightful lil calico on her hard-fought battles against miniature germs on a regular basis. your cat has "caught the prey" and is parading for your approval or at least acknowledgement :)

Literally this morning:
No ideas, just sleepless solidarity.
Your cat may have some demons in her.
Nevertheless, I miss her insane clenched jaw howling concerts.
We have a rescue cat, who might be 4-5 years old. He seems to wail twice a day to inform us that the mighty hunter needs appreciation. Good luck!
