All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn. American writing comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since.
I have the same edition of Catch-22 and I suggest glasses cause that's some small print. The Hate U Give, otoh, looks super thick for what I remember it to be. #Bannedbooks apparently are all good.
Great finds, I will always love The Giver so much! I really enjoyed all the books in the series, but I read the other 3 much later in life (I read them in order during peak COVID times).
Awesome! I’ve made it a goal to find and buy used copies of #bannedbooks in the next couple of months so I can create a little local “library” for my kids, family and friends 💙
Congrats, you have picked some of the best! To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book ever. No one has managed a Main Character's POV better, or in a more engaging way than Harper Lee, in my opinion.
I was always in the Top set class at school when I did my GCSEs (exams at 16). When I went onto A-levels (17-18) one of my subjects was English lit, and that's where we had so much more time per subject with each teacher, smaller classes, digging in deeper.
Love your haul. Of the seven I've read three, I love whodunits, and I know many people aren't fans of e-readers but being older more often than not I don't sleep all that well, so I find it comforting to be able to download an e-book to my e-reader from the library no matter the time of day.
To kill a mockingbird ("Il buio oltre la siepe" in Italian, literally "the dark beyond the hedge") is one of those books that made something click inside me, making me kind of a better person.
I'm currently working my way through the banned books list, purchasing as my budget allows. I had a fair number, but more books makes the Book Demon happy.
Catch-22 is hands-down my favourite book ever. I guess I've read about once every 10 years since I was in my late teens, and every time I have found that it's about something slightly different to what I'd thought before.
One of the school districts near me banned Slaughterhouse Five. I’m thinking about buying a few dozen copies and just hiding them around places for kids to find.
I’m so confused don’t all high school students have to read to kill a mockingbird to pass English. Like what is their mandatory reading in American schools?
The Color Purple? Didn't they make a movie? Isn't To Kill A Mockingbird on the list too? What about On The Beach? Too real for comfort, I'm sure. Can't find THX 1138 anywhere. Society controlled by drugs. No wonder.
I honestly was shocked it was on the approved list. It's a small town in southern Missouri with about 350 students from K-12. Very VERY red area so when he came home with it, I was like, "Well ok then!" I told him that I had already read it so it helped to have those conversations.

All probably banned (or nominated to be) by people who’ve never read them in the first place 😔
It’s mind-boggling.
Have you searched “banned children’s books”!?
It’ll piss you off even more. 🤬
You’re gonna have such a great time. I wish I could Re live that book.
Looking forward to it! 💙
Thanks Katherine. 🙌
Feel like I need to reread each of them now!
Thanks. I’m on a mission to find banned books.
For my daughters and granddaughter.
Sadly, that ship has sailed.
Saving them for my daughters and granddaughter!
