Parable of the Talents in my opinion is just as good as the first one. If you feel mentally prepared I definitely recommend giving it a read. All I’ll say though is Octavia Butler was a prophet.

Stick with Catch 22. The narrative is non linear so some of it just seems absurd until later in the book. But it will all click. It's not trying to deceive or be overly challenging. It just wants you to be patient. And the humour is there from page one, even if the story takes a beat to make sense.

A rabbit hole I have been down. I think The Social Graces was my favorite novel. The Vanderbilt rabbit hole led to a gilded era NYC rabbit hole for me. (Pretty deep) Adjacent to the Vanderbilt's are two of my favorite non-fiction: The Gilded Edge and The Scandalous Hamiltons.

I don’t mean to judge as I don’t know you. But this stack looks a little heavy after the election. Maybe read a few shorter, lighter texts, or poetry or something. Then go back to your stack. You’ll be ready then. (May I suggest nonfiction picture books? They are wonderful!)

Catch 22, Heller's only decent novel. Read a few and the others aren't in the same league. Fahrenheit 451 is a classic. Curious Incident was enjoyable. Not read the Tom Robbins but I enjoyed Jitterbug Perfume which I bought after two separate people told me I reminded them of someone in that book.

Catch 22 had me giggling by the end of the first page and in hysterics soon after. Read it at nighttime after work when I was 25 and devoured it in three days (or rather nights). And I'm a slow reader.

I highly recommend reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It is written as a series of letters among those who lived through WWII and the close community they built to make it through.
I suspect @bsky.app is the modern equivalent.

Jeannie, I also took a screen shot of your books to look for all those books. I’m an avid reader. I don’t watch tv except golf and poker only no sound needed for either … I’m deaf so I can’t watch a movie, the news etc. as I read lips, the news is the most frustrating for me can’t see them talk

Personally, when I'm on a reading slump, I read short stories. They're short, digestable and easy to read. They charge you till you pick up a book again. Try it. And I don't think you have a problem. It's okay. Take your time. It happens to every reader.

Hi Jeannie. Your stack of books is awesome! When I find myself not reading daily, I set a timer for 15 minutes and say, “I’m gonna read right now!” Then, I do it and, of course, I keep reading past the 15 minutes. That seems to kickstart my reading. Enjoy. Take care. 😊

Opposite for me. I’ve read 5 books in 7 days. It’s helped tremendously to stick my head into a book instead of scrolling endlessly on social media. The key for me was to pick lighthearted romance books, ones full of optimism and happy endings, as silly as it may be.

#1 is so true. There are books I bought in the 90s that are impossible to get now. Not online, not used, not anywhere. Some of them I'm just NOW getting around to reading and I'm really glad I waited because other books by other more recent authors help provide a fuller picture than possible before.
