Her general argument is fair, for example, with yesterday's DOL nominee confirmation. Oppose that, and you are likely to end up with someone much much worse. But in this case, you already have what is arguably the most dreadful nominee.
WTF happened to her? Did his brain worm sneak into her skull? She used to be pretty level headed in the early COVID days. Maybe its $. It's usually $ that corrupts principles and common sense. How depressing.
Trump’s second act as Chaos Czar, the U.S. government has dropped any pretence of serving the public and now operates exclusively as a VIP club for billionaires and ideological zealots. Think of it as a nation-state version of a hedge fund. https://aiwillybillhuman.substack.com/p/the-rogue-state-how-the-us-government
Bhattacharya is literally every bit as dangerous as Kennedy. Don’t let Stanford pedigree fool you. He’s a conspiracy promoting COVID infection advocate who is allied with basically every major right-wing group wading into the public health space.
Makary is a contrarian who continues pushing bad data about medical injury.
He’s followed Bhattacharya’s lead, embracing COVID fringes and Robert Kennedy Jr. He’s made absurd statements about the vaccines and is tied in with the anti-vax Brownstone Institute.
I mean, Bhattacharya is probably *worse* than Makary, but I’m not so sure given the fact that they’re allies.
Both part of the anti-vax Brownstone Institute’s Norfolk Group, which mapped out the HSSCP’s McCarthyite COVID investigation. Both inaugural GOP experts at the HSSCP’s first hearing.
Early on in the pandemic, Wen was solid on COVID. But with the Biden administration’s pivot to reopening, she became a cheerleader for stripping away protections and unjustified optimism.
Every bit as dangerous.
That’s what I keep trying to tell people. The importance of these appointments seems to be mostly consigned to the “so much else is happening/pick your battles” pile, but these sub-RFK health-sector appointments are, to me, key to their war on public health.
Don't let Mengele's pedigree fool you, either. Mengele received doctorates in anthropology and medicine. He was assigned to the Nazi concentration camps in 1943 to conduct genetic research on human subjects, with no regard for the health or safety of his victims
My subscription lapsed in September (although my access and home delivery continued for several more months). It is a local paper for me. But I don’t feel motivated to support it.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Leana Wen starts doing a nazi salute. She was one of the biggest turncoats on covid as soon as the money was right.
Wen has always been the worst on public health. I stopped reading WaPo 3 years ago because of her disgusting Covid minimizing, particularly when she blamed masks for her child’s speech issues.
I don’t get how Bezos could even remotely benefit from pushing anti-vax horseshit. He operates huge warehouses all over the country. Infectious diseases sweeping through his unvaxxed workforce or their children would make his life immeasurably harder and cost him billions.
I feel like those in the field of economics need to do some real soul searching and honest reflection on what designs/aspects or lack of within their pedagogy turn so many of their ranks into unfeeling liars. It’s fucking wild how many economist are fucked in the head

Meanwhile, NBC seems to be mounting timid, slightly better reporting.

Don’t read Wen’s pablum.

And now, here we are. Embarrassing.
