I think Darrow is a white cis man's idea of what revolution looks like but the whole story lacks good female characters and a real vision for what should replace the corruption. Darrow himself is corrupt and his thoughts don't match what a real revolutionary would think.
Interesting take for sure. Not disagreeing as I do think he turned into exactly what he sought out to destroy. 🔄 And same with the grandson. I personally enjoyed the female characters and found several of them to be incredibly strategic and bada**. Would you be willing to give me a recommendation?
I felt the women were wrote to further Darrow only (i.e idea for the revolution or love interest). A better example would be The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K Jemisin. Real issues are dissected expertly in all her books
I keep thinking of The Tale of Two Cities, and Madame Defarge knitting a scarf that secretly lists the names of people she wants killed during the French Revolution.
The Broken Earth trilogy is amazing and one of my favorite reads of all time! Her Inheritance trilogy is just as good, highly recommend for afterwards. :-D

Incredibly violent but also satisfying.
