Yes. The States hold elections, not the Federal Government (except in DC and the territories. Trump can stop DC and Guam from voting). Trump would have to use federal troops to stop NY or CA or whichever states from voting.

Oh, there's lots of things they can do to keep power. They just can't cancel the election.

Congress can just declare Trump the winner, for example.

That gets very complicated very quickly. But we're already seeing in North Carolina a Republican attempt to literally just declare that the loser of an election actually won, and it looks like they'll get away with it.

If they do, then they have a template they can use on any competitive race.

Witness the way he's "reclaimed" "his" stolen documents, taking them back to Florida this week.

My view that 26 is feasible (and possibly quietly desirable) is that by then Republicans aren't going to want responsibility for what they have done. Moreso, the arguments for 26 are the same as those for the 20 Republicans who could save us at any moment of their choosing.
