Anecdotally, husband and I both got flu A in December. I had the shot, he didn’t. He got quite sick (but not hospitalized sick) whereas I had a couple moderately bad days and then it was mostly like a lingering cold. He had a severe cough for weeks.

I’ve read that the vaccine wasn’t as good a match as it is some years. It’s still preventing a lot of hospitalizations, so it isn’t useless. (I’ve seen people implying/directly stating that.)
