Remember when the first thing that was thrown at that party was goddamn Tiamat? It’s like if in BOTW, Link woke up from his slumber and Ganon was waiting for him at the entrance.
I liked it, but I don't think it has enough going on to be worthy of a detailed diatribe. But I do remember enjoying the finale. Rare to get a good ending.
I’m a year older than that show but it was a fixture of my childhood. It was always on. Among 1980s cartoon villains Venger stood out as one of the scariest, not because he looked like a demon… but because he was COMPETENT. I mean, even his minion was loyal and competent. You know how rare that was?
I was obsessed as a kid (ended up playing dungeons and dragons for the first time when I was 8 in 1988) but haven’t actually watched it since the 80’s. Does it hold up other than nostalgia?
Given that it probably got a ham sandwich for a budget, I think it does better than one would expect. I watched it in 2018 and thought it was entertaining in its way.
Sure, it gets goofy at times (part of its charm imo). But for the time, place, and genre/format; its good.
What is the point of having a YouTube channel with a massive following if not to talk about unironically enjoying the 1983 Dungeons and Dragons cartoon?
I have fond memories of it, but it did suffer from one of my personal bugaboos. It was not a very accurate reflection of the source material. I think on so many levels it would have been separated from DnD.
Heck, IIRC it came out during the height of the DnD panick started back
In part it was to close to the incident at Michigan State, yes, I know that DnD had no real connection to what happened there, but back in 1982 people who were aware of the incident were only aware of the press release linking DnD to the missing young man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Dallas_Egbert_III?wprov=sfla1
This month, I will be finishing a year and a half long 5e campaign where the plot is finding the adult versions of the kids and reuniting them to finish their quest to get home.
Awesome. My dad has one of them but I've also never had time to watch the series full through. But the first disk (and esp the first few episodes) I've seen a lot of times.
Did you see the episode “City at the Edge of Midnight”? I want the sword from that episode as an actual D&D magic item so bad! Plus that episode was legit creepy!
They call it a "guilty pleasure", but there's nothing to be guilty about here! I enjoy more than a few downright trashy works of fiction. Most recently the entire reborn-as-the-doomed-villainess genre.
Fun fact: This cartoon came to France (called "Le Sourire du Dragon", a.k.a. "The Smile of the Dragon"), and at the time France's most beloved host for children and teen cartoons did the French intro theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ScDguC5F0Q

Target demo reporting for duty.
Somebody did make a D&D 5E monster that was the "Tiamat from the cartoons".

But not a Brazilian Youtuber. Just a average Brazilian
Your chances at finding a decent living being to discuss it get higher

Be careful though, he's weirdly homophobic.

I truly enjoy that cartoon.
I'm something of a fan!
How do you ironically enjoy things anyway? Never made sense to me.
