absolutely. one of my favorite ways to use 40k in discussions is 40k's theme's of decay and technological regression. part of why the Tech-Priests are my favorite part of 40k is that they're a faction I can totally see existing at some point. I mean, there are already Priests blessing weapons.
For as long as there have been priests, they have blessed weapons.
The thing that makes techno-priests a believable thing is the culture of software engineering. Each major stack has its own culture, preferred tools, and biases.
I wish people stopped calling things "political" when what they actyally mean is usually "controversial", "an uncofortable truth", or "disrupting my escapism".
I keep daring everyone who says "stop being political" to tell me something not political.
Every time I can tell them how what they said is.
Same with D&D - the grognards who give us all a bad name whine about orcs and goblins "suddenly" being more than just evil monsters to kill guilt-free (never mind that they've always been complex), while those with more sanity like me try to do justice to the lore of our beloved settings.
Yep - and to boot, they weren’t primitive "ooga booga" tribes like their later counterparts either, but coerced and dehumanized super-soldiers under a highly industrialized imperialist power, transformed by Sauron against their will.
Since he never finalized his ideas on Orc origins, we have several "non-canon" ones. One being that they were Elves, corrupted by Morgoth. He backpeddled on that and also described them as being bred BY Morgoth. After he was gone, Sauron just continued what he started with the Orcs. "If it works"
I’ve noticed that every person who I’ve seen use monsters as brainless killing, unless it’s like slimes or skeletons, the monsters are ALWAYS really obvious racial allegories. The number of times I’ve seen “the orks are ni- I mean thugs!” Is breathtaking
The American center right and far right parties have united over the past year, over the cause that killing the babies of the enemy is in fact a good move
That’s how fascists always do it. Lumping all of their enemies into a vague collection of “the left”. It’s why it’s so incredibly sinister that they call everything they don’t like “woke”. It’s just the Nazis slogan of “Judeo-Bolshevism” all over again but somehow even dumber
If the message you are receiving is that 40k implies fascism is a good thing then you havnt been paying attention. It's supposed to be a really awful setting, not 1 to aspire to.
A bit like how the dune books do not advocate being a dictator. These are not shown to be good desirable things to have.
Ine would assume that people got that message. One would be almost correct. There are people actively choosing to ignore the obvious bad part to Police the same things that fascists Police with the inquisition/ HERESY "jokes" 😒
It’s the same with comics. People don’t want to have political discussions in comic conversations but they forget that Captain America literally punched Hitler on the cover of his first appearance. I just don’t get it.
Cap punching Hitler is like the most basic example too! Fantastic Four vs Hatemonger or Superman kidnapping a warmongering politician and dropping him into the warzone he's trying to profit from to see how he likes it are VERY overt examples that were contemporary for the time.
Magneto being who he is today because of Nazi violence to his family, X-Men being discriminated because they were born the way they are, Swamp Thing fighting to save The Green from being destroyed. I just don’t understand how it’s not political.
It was never about politics. It was about the fact that they're homophobic and racist. And nostalgia. A lot of these arguments are basically. "Well I used to like comics when I was 13 and didn't have bills to pay, but now that I'm a sad adult I don't enjoy things as much because of woke."
It also matters who you throwing them on, if you are placing iron crosses on armies that don't have them as symbols it will be weird and get you weird looks.
I like Tyranids. One day I'll be able to hunt down some of the really early models for them and position all the different versions of Warriors or Biovores together in little rows.
I have a plan. To one day get some Necrons, Nids, and ORKS.
And then bash em all together. Necrorks and Orkanids are a silly idea, but that's what makes em so great.
aka "space ww2 soviets". when they had their own army lists, they even had special Tank desant rules (infantry riding tanks into battle) including special figures to model that onto your Leman Russ Tanks. in the fiction they're very russian coded.
Krieg is at least WWI France with a splash of WWI Germany mixed into the helms and a British gasmask, but yeah Cadia gets a lot of focus and is a bit desert storm these days over a mix of older conflicts.
Not to mention one of the unofficial functions of the Waffen SS, which as a fighting force were no better than the regular Wehrmacht troops and often mediocre by comparison, was to intimidate the "regulars" into political compliance.
Because the idiots will try and roast you. The Commisars aren't the captains, they're independent of the Guard chain of command and there to enforce compliance with the politics of the Imperium, make sure no-one steps out of line. They can execute anyone from the highest Lord militant down.
I mean, if I fucked up and got caught yapping, it's fine. I'm not close with the WH40K lore. I'm interested in it, I just don't have a whole hell of a lot of time to read all of it.
Commissars aren’t Captains. They are political officers just like the Commissars of the Red Army. Since Guants Ghosts Commissars in the fluff can hold military ranks as well.

The right wing suggest that not killing them is an evil act, thw leftists argue that if they are mortal sentients then it is a matter of upbringing.
Same issue with drow, I rather like old school drow, and I hate the discourse.

"Have you ever heard of a man called Hitler"

It is just Cadia & Krieg.
Like imagine watching The Wire and being like, "ew, politics in my works of art! Gross!"
Funnily enough, the Nazis had those too.
That is not a small number.
