I'm not sure, sorry! It was several years ago I started and I just make my own designs now. I'd say go to Etsy and search for embroidery sampler kits. Samplers will teach you multiple types of stitches and you can find some cute ones that come with the supplies usually for $20-$30 I think
I've never really done crosstitch but embroidery works on a sliding scale of difficulty. It depends on the types of stitches you use, and there are tons of stitches (so far this only has a basic satin stitch) You can customize the difficulty a lot, it's mostly a game of patience.
Embroidery can be as hard as you want it to be. Starting out wit preprinted or iron on patterns is a good place to start/ once you learn basics like running stitch (dashed lines) and back stitch (solid lines) you can do entire pieces of embroidery.
Before bsky i wasnβt interested in knitting but now with all the talented people I see I just may have to give it a try although Iβll need yearβs of experience to compete with everyone here. Kat Thank You for Sharing.
Quick question: how DO you embroider? If one were to attempt it, how would one proceed? Why canβt I embroider despite reading the instructions and doing my best to respect their wisdom?
Well, I started with a sampler kit I got off Etsy, it's a great way to learn and practice the basic stitches. A lot of it is just patience and practice (and also looking up other instructions if one person's don't work for you ^^; )
I started with a sampler kit I got off Etsy! It taught me several types of basic stitches and provided the supplies I needed to start. It's a nice way to try it out and learn.
Oh, now I'm wondering... you're probably right.
Picked up two from a charity shop, and recently gave them back (with a note within the one I did saying 4 pieces missing!).
I take my hat off to embroiderers. My friend embroidered with gold metal thread as we drove across the Simpson desert. The finished work was exquisite.
You should! It's not really too hard to start, just requires a bit of patience. I started with a small sampler kit that came with the supplies and tutorials on several basic stitches. You can definitely make it more difficult with complicated stitches but the basic ones are pretty easy to master!
Those are really nice, but I donβt do enough stitching to justify the expense. Iβve gone to other crafts that donβt require as much hand strength - keep posting your stuff, please. β€οΈβ€οΈ
Well I initially did the design digitally and went through my thread box to see what I had on hand to use color wise. I tried to keep it sort of minimal and went with the pinks, purples, and blues because they're colors that go well together. The greens and golds made for nice accents!
wow! so pretty! I am so slow in comparison π I only started recently so Iβm sure I will get faster with time. may I ask how long youβve been doing embroidery?
Thank you! This is a small piece so it's going faster than usual I think? I think I did my first sampler piece in 2017 but there was a few years between that and my self designed ones. I think I've only made about 7 or 8 pieces total?
I get that. each one is so much work even if youβre already good and have a stitch plan to follow. my mil embroiders. I should post some of her work. it isnβt my style but it is amazing. she does around 5-10 A YEAR π³
Three hours is what it takes to read a book in my house and if you could listen to audio books you would be a double dipper. How in the world do you have patience to do such incredible stitchwork. I have the attention span of a tabby, I need constant visual stimulation and play time.
Haha I do usually watch stuff while I work on embroidery. I was watching a YouTuber who cooks recipes from history and talks about the history of them while working on this actually. But I've also just always been a patient person XD
To be honest I just bought two sampler kits off Etsy and learned the basic stitches that way. I don't learn well via video so I don't have any to share ^^;
I use to wake up extra early to watch this anime on basic cable. It made me feel whole. Who is your favorite mine changes and includes all. But I would like to see where your affinity lies. If i have to be cryptic I will say Sailor Pluto. don't worry i have my Chron/ai. No Persephone needed.
Its honestly so hard to choose, all the girls are wonderful in their own ways. I think it might be a very close toss between Jupiter and Mercury for me. They both have parts of them that I relate to a lot
Ooohhh that makes sense, haha. I know her works are super popular though I haven't gotten around to giving her a shot yet (so many books on my list to read and so little time to read them)
I love to embroider. I do not like wearing magnifying glasses though. Enjoy it now as much as possible. This is beautiful. Canβt wait to see the finished item.
Thank you! And no, it's intended to be viewed this way, though it could easily be displayed the other way round too probably. This is what it's gonna look like done

Honest question: Is embroidery difficult to do or is it along the same difficulty as cross stitch?
I'm thinking of trying it.
I'll have to throw caution to the wind and look into a small, beginner kit then.
I'll take a peek on Etsy and another hobby website I frequent for the kits as well. ^_^

And that's actually a really good way to try out new puzzles, I'll have to keep my eye out for some to pick up that way
How do you decide on the colors?

I wish I could figure out what it reminds me of.
I do think of the sword from the US box art for Dragon Warrior/Quest 4 even though they are actually very different.
Several people have mentioned it reminding them of the master sword ( ai guess because of the wings and criss crosses on the hilt?)
Sometimes things just trigger associations!
And yeah, that sounds cool you should! Also that's a lot of pieces @_@
