yes, rediscovering the library has been lovely since i gave up amazon shopping. our small local library is a gem where everyone is welcome and all are cared for.
When they order the obscure book you've been waiting for through interlibrary loan and you end up with a brand new copy, well, there's nothing like that.
Everyone should! I think everyone should also start (according to their means), or keep adding to, a personal library. However small or large, one’s shelf or shelves will contain much that authoritarians like MAGA want to take from us. A library - public or private - is resistance itself.
If somebody could put "Library Scent" in a can, I would buy the hell out of it. Also "Small Bookstore With Cat In Window" smell.
Make that one a Plug-In.
I read a lot and always library books. An extra added attraction is finding someone's penciled comments or corrections. Or the note with their to do list. Sometimes there's a receipt of the books they just checked out. I consider them recommendations.
FYI the book he had on his nightstand (according to his ex-wife Ivana Trump, who he buried in a now overgrown grave on his golf course in New Jersey) was 'My New Order', not Mein Kampf, which according to Ivana, he would reference regularly.
I belong to 3 book clubs - 2 are at libraries. Next week, I'm taking a watercolor painting class at my library. I'm so lucky to have several great libraries close to home.
My local library just got an upgrage, it's ten times bigger now and much easier to navigate. Partially due to the fact that it now has a MAP next to the entrance. Like a map of a museum. It's great.
Our Lapeer Library board has been taken over by MAGA and the TEA Party. They have had 2 Directors quit in 6 months. I burned my library card. So sad. They want and are banning books.
Here in our little town, multiple votes have turned away the library board for a new library. So a bank donated a building in the perfect location. Needs some work to be a library. Nope, the voters (same ones who said we didn't need a NEW library) voted down the grant-matching funds for this too.
Yes, libraries are great! A refuge and a chance to exchange ideas, concerns and hopes. Not in the reading room, of course. Plus, so many newspapers and magazines with so many different perspectives. I’m looking forward to reading that article about Galileo’s theory on the solar system. 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇦🇫🇷
Libraries are amazing. They are the keepers of vast amounts of knowledge. They offer programs for early childhood learning which fosters social development. They have access to free computers and free WiFi. They have teen and young adult programs. Book clubs, after school programs and more.
I hope our illiterate president doesn't sign an executive order banning libraries or turning over our check-out records to DOGE.
I have read 15 books so far this year. None of them flatter the trumpster. And ALL of them are above his reading comprehension level.
The night after the election I went to the library just because it felt like a safe and sane place. I’ve gone every Wednesday since. Sometimes I get new books, sometimes I don’t. It makes me happy every single time.
Yes. while I prefer not to be should-ed, I accept the recommendation. In addition to being a place to calm the nervous system, our local branch is hosting an emergency go bag training on Sunday.
I work for a library collective that delivers 'hold' books to and from libraries, and the threats against them are personal to me. I march in every protest with a 'Hands Off OUR Libraries' sign and I hope everyone realizes the dangers of a society without this resource!
I 100% agree! I had such a lightbulb moment when I remembered that I could order books from the online library website instead of going to each library where the book was 😅 Now I get two or three books to read each week! Libraries are wonderful
Is this in Arizona?!?!?!? I recently went to the Lowell observatory in Tucson. I learned about how important Arizona is to the astronomy community. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My 4 year old Grandson was quizzing me on planets and when I got a tricky question wrong he suggested I go and join a library because “they have so many books about everything!”
Maine State Library is CLOSED due to federal funding cuts until May 5. It's been closed since April 10. The Augusta city library, Lithgow Public Library, is open, but without the State library, we may lose access to interlibrary loans.
God damn tRump and muskrat.
I just witnessed my first closed local library in a place I travel to frequently. It's really sad because it was a beautiful, simple, library but it was a central feature of the cityscape. Now just an empty building. Reflects a sad outcome. Losing tangible public space isolates & factions society.
For those who can't go, there's Libby, an online library app with current ebooks and audio books and loads of magazines. And Gutenberg and Faded Pages with out of copyright classics, mysteries, romances, poetry...
I work in a public library, and, not only do we have the usual stuff, but also check out wifi hotspots, seeds from our seed library, museum passes, ukuleles, and birding backpacks 😀
We just had a birding for beginners program this afternoon. It was a lovely way for a community to explore their public grounds and meet their neighbors.
As a public library worker in a large city, we have some amazing patrons, but there are also a lot of stupid and obnoxious people. I love working there and libraries in general, but peaceful isn’t a word I’d use to describe them in my experience!

Your jedi mind trick worked again!
Very cute regardless
I even am in charge of one at my spiritual community.
I have a personal library too, which also contains many banned books!

I've been using mine to rent old movies.
My favorite places to regroup:
nature
library
book store
music store
not necessarily in that order.
and listing those places - they're under threat 😪
Surprising for such an illiterate man.

I now use the county branch in the next town which welcomes everyone and helps find books outside the systems
I saw this today. You would love this.
