I know!!! Itβs the holidays! Not supposed to buy for oneself! But we are doing a radically scaled back Christmas and, ah, it backfired in terms of book-buying.

The Blue Hour by Angelina D'Roza (the publisher, Longbarrow, is new to me & makes such gorgeous books!). I've resisted other books but put them in carts :)
On Writing Wellβhoping I will learn to quell my verbosity and my tendency to pontificate. I mean, I hope to learn to write clearly, briefly and to the point.
my only book purchase not a panicked last minute haul for children is the below, which has not yet arrived but which I am really excited for: Joel Calahan's _The Bees_, a translation of book IV of Vergil's _Georgics_
Wrap them up, put the tag "To Han, Love, Your Secret Admirer" on them, and leave them for yourself under the tree (or wherever you stack gifts). It's even okay (maybe better) if everyone in your house has seen you reading them already.
I actually resisted during my latest visit to Three Lives, which was a bit over a week ago, but only because I was busy filling boxes with books from my very dearly departed friend's apartment. I honestly don't know what I've brought home with me.
15 books for $34.50 at a library bookstore, 1/2 off for the holiday, cash or check only. Isabel Allende. Anne Tyler, Sally Rooney. So much good reading for 2025. :)
My book purchases from last week were numerous. Here are a few highlights: the new box set cover for A Song of Ice and Fire, Anne of Green Gables, The Witching Hour Anne Rice, The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner, The Secret of Friendship by Kazune Kawahara, Neighborhood Story, Vol. 1
by Ai Yazawa, etc.
I bought the new translation of Barthesβ Mythologies; Emily Herringβs book about Henri Bergson; Lunar Solo: Selected Poems of Jules LaForge. Very French week.
I've been trying so hard not to pre-order this book. The image is of the AUS paperback, but I know this cover can be hardback, just in other countries π it's amazing π
