even wipes labeled flushable shouldn’t be flushed. some claim to break down better than others but as a general rule we advocate only flush bodily waste and TP.

No financial interest in the company, but Fohm makes a foam dispenser that turns TP into a wipe. Works with any brand of TP you prefer. Zero added risk to septic or sewers. Also, way cheaper than wipes. Happy bottoms all around ;-)

Isn't that just...false advertising, then?
I mean, what else does "flushable" mean? You can technically flush a lot of things, you can flush a steak, but it won't work right, if it doesn't break down and pass. Doesn't make steaks flushable. That's just a lie.

Yep. And they've been able to get away with it since always despite several legal fights over it. There's no federal law regarding the usage of the label "flushable" so they're having to go state by state to pass laws to prevent labeling insinuating they are. Mainly just a few states so far, though.

I don’t understand why these wipes exist. Everyone who isn’t the marketing department for the wipes says they shouldn’t be flushed. So I guess we’re just supposed to drop them in the waste basket? 😄

Well. Yes. That's how it's supposed to be for just about everything for our plumbing, including places with septic tanks. People throw all sorts of things down their tubes they really shouldn't. 😕

None of that is flushable except t.p. People can wipe with tp and then use a wipe for, uh, a last pass. Or like someone else said, just skip all that and use a bidet. 😄

I use them (without flushing) before long runs to avoid chafing since they don’t leave rubbing bits behind. I know a bidet could do the same thing, but those are scary.

This reminds me of the compostable bags I used in my compost bin. If they broke down it took more than the 3 years I had my compost bins going full bore. I ended up throwing the unused ones out as regular garbage bags.
