Not for long...war, famine, death, pestilence...you know just a few of Trumps cabinet picks will take care of all that pesky beauty. Sorry I'm still in mourning
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

We got our first snowfall today, just a dusting. I live in SW Ohio and our winters used to be snowy and cold. Now we get less snow and more ice storms. I prefer the snow.π
ty. I've had a few roses over the years & think 2025 might be time to get another one. I still have a Don Juan climber that is zero maintenance. But I had a Tropicana once. Funny how they're so distinctive. I don't remember certain Plumbagoes, etc. Just roses.
I have two Pearly Gates climbers that I planted at the fence outside my cemetery but I worry Iβve already killed them. I gotta learn more about climbers!
Don Juans are the hardiest rose I've ever seen. They're at the edge of my driveway & have had no attention since I planted 15 years ago. I think they've been hit by cars a couple of times. It's mostly shady. They are immortal.
Ok so I think itβs the Sunset Horizon floribunda rose. My other roses are Twilight Zone and Barbra Streisand which were really easy to remember but somehow I didnβt write down this one π«
Thanks for reinforcing this important reminder, John. We should keep looking for those silver linings in the cloudsβtechnology, nature, business and life. π Going through some challenging things here, so your post was perfect timing.
I can relate. Took this in October 1990 after the first snowfall of the season in Aspen. This image is unfortunately duller than the original as itβs a picture of a picture.

Apologies folks - text replacement put βKateβ in front of βSpringβ instead of βlate Springβ should have re-read it before pressing βpostβ.
I am so glad you popped up in my feed! John, I had no idea you were here. Man I have been reading through your bibliography and I enjoy your work so much! Redshirts got me in the door. I couldn't put Starter Villain down. I am so glad I am able to say hello to you. Hello, John Scalzi!
X once had at least a kiss from a rose, before & after the thorn tore your dreams apart.
Now they are deadheaded.
But not in a good Grateful Dead way.
Bluesky hovers over these perfumed fields of Grasse.
The air pulses with the energy of joyful scents.
It may change.
For now?
Drift with the crowds.

Good post, makes people stop for a few seconds and think of something else.

I don't know how it works, but it does.
Until you interfere with its balance.
Leave room for Nature. Leave room for Nature.
I particularly enjoy this resilient grass on my local metro platform

The silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow
Take the time to take time for yourself, and look around you.
You might miss something.
