I think the person giving that advice is trying to cut down on their potential competition, and should be ignored. Lots of writers debut in their 50s and are writing fruitfully for decades after.

I heard that aspiring novelists 50 and over are wasting their time to submit to big traditional publishers. Word is New York feels that at that age, there is not enough time left to build a career. I think that is probably click bait. What do you think?
