Come on, be fair, if the Dems had gotten rid of the filibuster the Republicans wouldn't be able to use it against them, and people would expect them to pass shit when they had power
The question you should be asking is why the GOP wants it: to avoid accountability. Filibuster should absolutely die. It wasn’t even useful this time around anyway!
You were awesome on All In tonight. You are spot on. This is politician’s day job and they are not doing it but we will not give in. It is time for non violent protest. They can not take away our first amendment right.
Gotta throw the whole Senate out and abolish it. It’s not just the filibuster. It gives individual personalities far too much power, and the staggered terms dilutes the electorate’s power to change the makeup.
A full 1/3 of the country has no input every election, and that’s ridiculous.
Can you even begin to imagine the legislation Republicans would be passing right now?
Just bc they strategically decided a shutdown would hurt their 2026 chances while doing little good, doesn’t mean those 41 votes aren’t saving our democracy right now.
The Dems white flag vote today is a tacit acknowledgement that they are out of their league when it comes to communicating the narrative. Time for the Dem dinosaur's lugnuts to get an overhaul. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIRJ7Tqj-tI
Yeah, making every Democratic bill require a 60 vote. Majority to pass was totally worth getting the fascists to give up *checks notes* absolutely nothing. Thank God they made that trade!
Honest Q-are we sure Schumer's argument is wrong? He claims that if Congress shut down, Trump legally gains much more power, can shutter agencies permanently, stop ALL spending, etc. And Trump/ Rs might not reopen Congress. No negotiating, just closed. Is he totally wrong? Bc it sounds like a coup.
That's what I keep wondering. It's absurd to think that literally everyone else is just stupider than Schumer, but I'm not sure I see a downside to a shutdown for Trump.
A tip - when your enemy has given you two options, neither of which is appealing, it’s good strategy to choose one rather than handing him the choice, as if you did, he would always choose the best one for him. Narrow his options.
Now, Trump can choose, either CR or not, with a pen stroke.
True, but elections aren’t for a year and a half, which gives him a year and a half to do damage control. The political hit will probably be meaningless by then either way.
Seriously! We can't eliminate the filibuster because we'll need it when they're in power. But when they're in power Dem leadership bends over backwards to help them thwart the filibuster every time.
Schumer: “we have to keep the sacred filibuster, cause what happens when we don’t have power!??”
Also Schumer: “oh a nakedly partisan funding bill that goes against all of our priorities, let me go out of my way to gather 9 votes to get it passed the 60 vote margin!”
What a joke. Beyond useless.
I initially read this as more of a “O nakedly partisan funding bill that goes against all of our priorities!” and I have to say, it REALLY works in that voice too.

The answer is that the Democrats were supposed to be the opposition party. They've failed grotesquely.
You wrote those words not too long after the election and I’ve never forgotten them, wish more Senators would have heeded those words.
I appreciate your strong voice and the clarity of your ideas.
A full 1/3 of the country has no input every election, and that’s ridiculous.
Ridiculous that a tiny state gets same representation & power in DC as a big state.
Our entire system needs an overhaul.

The *real* LEFT needs proper representation.

But your point is valid, Rebecca.
