The Savoy was their predecessor in this location. I hope Martin House will last. I suspect you’d feel at home there; they have a cafe, and their WiFi password is Books&Wine 😉
WESTERLY! Dangit. 6-months too late. Moved away and that would be a bit of a haul from here. WiFi password noted in case of a return to the 'hood. (Former Providence/Cranston resident of 11 years).
And “calling in sick / out of work” should be reversed. It should be expected that no one is coming in, and those who wish to come in can call to inform that they will be in.
This might blow your mind, but unless you work for a slaver or human trafficker, you can ALWAYS leave work early to go to a bookstore (or anywhere) when it rains (or any time) 🤓
Does anyone remember the John Sebastian song where he says "Sunshowers are legal grounds for skipping school"?
I still use that excuse for work. But rain and bookstores works great, too!
I miss proper bookstores. now you have chain stores like Waterstones, which don't have any book you want, but will order it from Amazon for you at significant markup.
There are no book stores in our town
Not even a used book store, which are actually my favorite
I remember the smell of old books and dust and sometimes a little incense in the air
sigh
I did. It was a lot of fun. I only did it part time and it was a funky used book store that also sold cd’s and game consoles. I’m not a gamer, but the music and books I collected was the best.
I'm in Victoria, and it's been mostly rain since October. Currently sunny skies, but ugly rain clouds coming in. We probably won't see the moon eclipse tonight
I live in the PNW on an island within eyesight (on a clear day) of Seattle in one direction and Canadian islands in the other. I wouldn't even be employed using this system. Otherwise, I dig it.
I miss working in my lovely office in the torrential Toronto rains and clashjng thunderstorms. I miss that city so much. I loved living in a bustling vibrant city. Last century now.
This is an excellent idea! I live in Oregon, so I would spend half my life in the bookstore! Well, except for whatever three months in the summer that it decides not to rain. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I used to work at a bookstore, but that’s not a feasible career path anymore. I wish I could do what I’m passionate about and afford food, but instead i’ll just shitpost until I die from lack of access to healthcare.

Bonus points if the bookstore had lovely treats for their patron's four legged good boys and good girls.
