It's 5 yrs today since lockdown started in England, but "We must never have lockdown again" is the wrong lesson.
Lockdowns are terrible but so are deadly pandemics.
Our choices 5 years ago were limited - we can & must do better in the future.
Do read my post.

"Even if that extinguishes a raging fire?"
"Fire hoses bad!"
Isolation is not good for physical issues (not visiting doctors for routine checkups) or mental.
Schools were open so children could still be with their friends and so
paid sick leave is also great to make ppl stay at home if sick

Why?
To preserve limited ICU, CCU & acute care beds for new Covid cases, heart attacks, strokes & trauma.
Getting rid of illegals has very little but a positive impact on the "top Y1%" (whatever that is).
Think your posts through.
We now in the UK have a seriously broken society because of it.
But is that really enough? If longer term illness is the problem being supposedly looked at, then surely prevention is the direction to be heading?
There's a lot of questions regarding the lessons learn imho
The End.

1. 300 deaths per day is nearly 110,000 per year. That's more than the total of traffic (42,000) and gun (47,000). Nobody complains about efforts taken to reduce traffic and gun deaths.
The social issue is that when I pointed out "300 is same as 1 in a million" it was censored. Biden supported censorship.
Managing population-level risks requires population-level responses.
You're right, I don't hide away from gun violence. But I still advocate for measures that reduce it.
Lightning strikes happen to entire populations, but you still have to decide individually if you want to lock yourself down for fear of lightning strikes.
People need accurate information.
If I go out and about with my asymptomatic infection or swinging a sword around, I will come home safe, but not necessarily those around me.
The median age of Covid deaths was higher than life expectancy in the USA. The dying were past their expiry date, and you are finding arguments supporting insanity, for partisan reasons.
I highly doubt the public would put up with it again.
I just had the worst month of sickness this year.
This year, I don't remember February
🧐
Long answer : yes.
That's also why we have 47.
I would love to read a discussion on how eg 20k compares to normal death rates (is it 2x, 10x?), how the distribution of deaths being among the elderly plays into the QALY evaluation of lockdowns
What metric could we actually use to measure lockdown need in future?
We discovered the exact opposite. The worst case scenario.
They all had essentially nothing at all in place.
Fannying about, then having them anyway several weeks too late, is the lesson to be learned.
As is more political openness over the information they have to work with.
There never going to find out
Who was responsible
That all I'm saying
Greetings from Germany.
I'm so proud of good science and scientists.
I need them so much, because I'm not a scientist, but rely on science in my life.

unfortunately you can’t gaslight a virus ❗️
Not going to happen though. Another pandemic and we’ll be back to wearing garbage bags and socks.
Do you have a plan of action for the next pandemic?
They're plague rats.
If you do everything right, people will complain that the measures you took were unnecessary because they were effective.
Those in charge are the least able. A cabal of halfwits and morons.
I’m mid seventies and have been vaccinated for everything since birth. Still going strong.🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦
Humans are too stupid to acknowledge that!
Part of it says “no masks on campus”.
Anywhere.
1. Public health failed to prepare for pandemics.
2. PH failed to stockpile enough PPE.
3. PH failed to teach masses proper use of PPE.
Guess MAGAts got there way. Didn't even know Covid was stiĺl with us.
Mofos.
Small local business stepped up where major ones failed - amazing fresh veg, fruit, breads delivered to the door. Cleaner air, the quiet calm.
...
If we could do the same without the dying part, it would be utopia.
(yes, sadly lost friends and relatives, and still have long COVID effects)
#freedom
Physical distancing, not social!!!
Mask and mingle, with great air exchange & filtering can be an acceptable risk.
Mitigation, mitigation, mitigation, as in fucking save your friends & family, first & foremost.
Correct the messaging, because we will need it.
You might as well have tried to hold back the sea with a seive.
It was a poor decision.
… they didn’t want to disrupt people’s lives ❗️
Learn Dutch and read this. We also had viral vector vaccines. The world is larger than the USA
They can never get it back.
We all got vaccinated, still caught covid...
In hindsight, wearing masks and washing hands was literally the only thing that helped. Hiding at home did not 👎🏻
Places like Idaho didn't lockdown, and didn't experience a higher death rate than their neighbor, Washington State (me)
My child's life did not change from missing prom. Though they couldn't physically hang with friends, they could zoom. They understood the point and they were fine.
My kids missed nearly two years of highschool. Freshman and sophomore year. Junior and senior year. Sitting on their asses all day on zoom instead of being at school.
You're pouring on some serious sugar. Denial.
I'm sorry your children suffered through such things. My child also lived through the same time. I hope your children can work through their trauma.
I’m sorry your kids’ high school experience was cut short.
Seek psychiatric help for your struggles 😐
I caught it in the first wave, Feb 2020. Unmistakable symptoms. I was vaxd ASAP.
Since vax I've had it 3 times. All worse than the first.
Now, where is it?
It's part of flu season.
