And almost a bechamel sauce .. but either it turns into pancakes or it doesn’t appear again? So not lasagne as we know it. Presumably tomatoes introduced in the 16C to Europe took time to make their way into dishes?

I haven’t made this one but I’ve made other patinae from Apicius. I wouldn’t call it anything like a lasagna though. It’s egg and meat so it’s similar to a frittata or omelet. There is something like an early lasagna from the period though. Layers of cheese and pasta called a Placenta.
