One of my beliefs that is hard to put into words is that most of the so-called obesity epidemic in America isn’t about food, but is instead about the fact that we work too much and are hopped up on cortisol.

Ainsley Earhardt makes a case for RFK Jr: "When you go to Europe, the food is delicious. It's so fresh. And you don't gain weight if you eat a big bowl of pasta. So we want that to come here to America."

Correlation is not causation.
Just that if you care about those things, these are good programs that are probably wildly underfunded.
Thanks for considering!
much higher in most of Europe (Scandinavia excluded) than the U.S.
If you grow up poor, it's cheaper for your family to buy macaroni, white rice, and noodles.
It's much more expensive to feed kids organic vegetables, quinoa, and fresh salmon.
They don't have time to exercise w/ 12 hours shifts+2nd jobs+exhaustion, FOR SURE increasing diabetes/obesity.
You skip meals and your body thinks you're starving, so it slows down.
People don't believe that's why I've struggled with weight my whole life. They assume nonstop ice cream & raw cookie dough.
But when I was a kid, there were weeks when we had pickles & gov't cheese.
🤷♀️
Even in the UK, where it largely costs more than in mainland Europe, it can be half the price it is in the US.
(And the part where despite all that we are still living longer and generally healthier than ever but that doesn't sell grifts)
Yeah. Too much cortisol is real real bad.
Also no comment on*reliable* transit in the US 🙃
Her reaction: how is this allowed?!
This was while Chicago had 15-20m headways (it's finally getting better)....
It adds up.
We need to address the stress and the food access issues to solve the “obesity crisis”.
RFK Jr is gunning for HHS, not USDA
Europeans walk much more, they are burning more calories
The portions are smaller, even the big bowls
I eat pasta from Italy and I’m a fat fuck. It’s not the pasta.
When there is no where to walk to people don’t. And that cant help.
(The term ob*sity is also not great because it forcefully medicalizes and stigmatizes natural variations on body size.)
So these dominance-obsessed guys have no interest in cutting our cortisol. Just complaining about it.
