Looking forward to your visit posts - we are doing 2 night stopover there later this year. I am assuming that given the current volcanic activity you’re not at the blue lagoon?
I first went to Iceland as a poor college student in the summer of 1992 and I loved it. But the Blue Lagoon was not on the list - camped through the interior so that was pretty great. Went back in Feb 2019 and went to the Blue Lagoon and WOW! Got to see amazing northern lights as well.
There are a lot of cool geothermal lagoons (it seems like he was at a different one and I guessed wrong!) and most of them are much cheaper but this swim up bar + mud masks at Blue Lagoon are just so nice.
A few years ago we did a night visit to the Blue Lagoon outside Reykjavik. While bobbing around to the swim-up bar the northern lights appeared. One of the cooler experiences I’ve had.
That is Blue Lagoon and yes, I was disappointed that it was the run-off from a geothermal power plant, although, the water was a really nice shade of blue.

The location of the frequent eruptions keeps closing Blue Lagoon now for brief periods of time.
I love Iceland, have fun.
