Good idea! On college parent page a parent said her daughter (Latino) was approached by ICE as she exited mass transit. ICE asked for documentation & didn’t seem satisfied w driver’s license & school id. Finally let her go after more questioning. It’s a lie they are “just looking for criminals”

Both of our Korean-American children were adopted at 4 1/4 months and naturalized at ages 6 and 8. They are adults now in their 30’s. I just asked them if they have all their papers organized. They said they do. I never in a million years thought I would have to think about this. It traumatizes me.

My wife is a naturalized citizen and my daughters are birthright citizens. Even though our driver licenses are Real ID, we’re doing the same and getting all of them passport cards to carry.

@kenwhite.bsky.social Truly, a passport card can't be beat for proving citizenship. For adopted children, there has to be some basis for denying US citizenship. If a child has a US citizen parent on their birth certificate (amended in adoption process), what's left to challenge their citizenship?

Per the Child Adoption Act of 2000, foreign-born adoptees become citizens as soon as they reach US soil. Children adopted since 2000 are given naturalization papers rather than green cards (though there was an overlap for a couple of years while the new system was streamlined).

Adoptees whose parents did not follow through on paperwork may be at risk, but adoptees under 20 are given naturalization papers rather than a green card from the beginning (there was an overlap while the system was streamlined). However, I still worry that my 25 yo adopted child may be harrassed.
