I think everyone needs to seriously start planning how to get out of the US to somewhere safe. There's no calvary coming. The rule of law is gone and there are no more checks. This is going to get horrifyingly worse.

great, great, and if i don't have my previous documents other than my pre-legal-name-change passport? this shit is ridiculous, things are getting HELLA hostile for trans people & y'all are just deciding to throw us under the bus. thank god you're able to afford moving to another country though!
This is a Bad Take. Like, nuclear bad. I am better off than a ton of people and moving to another country would be impossible. I honestly hope you reconsider this shit
This is utterly lacking grounding in reality for most people. Look at hurricane and fire evacuation challenges for people, then keep saying people should flee the country.
You could be encouraging people to build community which is far more realistic and accessible.
I don’t really think this is good advice… we should stay and fight for our homes. Not go elsewhere bc we are scared. That is exactly what the government wants.
How the fuck am I supposed to do that, exactly?
I'm fucking disabled.
I don't have any money.
Im trans, over 40 who doesn't have a "sought after skill set.
I can't even update my passport.
And I at least have the privilege of passing as white. Many others don't even have that.
Also, where exactly can I go?
Clearly those saying to do this, are either fucking privileged or have no fucking clue what the requirements or cost to flee or even the requirements of most countries...
Also, there are certain people that most countries won't accept...
Agreed: either a plan to leave or a plan to stay and push back (I am opting for the latter, but trying to help out friends who are looking at leaving - wise move!)
Yeah that’s not happening. I can’t afford to move and I have people here that I love that can’t immigrate because other countries hate the disabled. If people wanna leave and can, do it. I can’t afford to though.
Most people don't live close enough to a border to reliably escape and seek asylum if trying to escape the US. If you have to try to leave when shits already hit the fan then it's too late to run for most people. The only real option is to stand and fight for your loved ones and your country.
Who exactly is coming to take you away? Think about it: Who? Your neighbors? No. Citizens from other states? No. Your own National Guard? No. But if so, can you at least move to a different state? Go now, it'll make you feel better. Then make connections.
The U.S. has the largest military in the world, and the administration is preaching lebensraum. There is no where to run. Run to Canada, they will try to take over, run to Mexico, they will try to exterminate, run to Europe, they will go there, too. The place to stand and fight is here.
Even if a person has the means to move, most countries require U.S. immigrants to have an identity history document issued by the FBI. You have to submit a fingerprint card to the FBI to get that. Soon targeted people won’t be able to get clearance at all since Patel is running the FBI.
are you going to pay for my moving expenses? i dunno about you but the average american doesn't have emergency funds saved up that could pay off a move. and thats for a move to a different town. don't even get me started on another COUNTRY
& im trans. how am i supposed to travel without a passport?
assuming there’s going to be another fair election is a bit optimistic. there could be, but these numbers are meaningless if people are driven to flee. at that point approval rating is a measure of who will or won’t rat on their neighbors.
Unless MAGA starts stripping citizenships from those who are leaving, you can still vote.
And even if they will, a strong and loud diaspora is a huge asset.
Problem for me is that a lot of those countries are likely to start quarantining Americans for their own safety and already don't allow people who can't be gainfully employed to emigrate there (load on benefits).
I know some countries won't allow anyone with autism to move there, for example.
That sounds like giving up en masse. Too early for that. If the U.S. falls, there won’t really be anywhere else to go. The rest of the world will follow it into the abyss.
Contingency plans are good. But don’t give up on the American people just yet. There are a lot of pissed off veterans and they are armed and well trained. This will get ugly.
If you can afford to leave the US and that’s what you need to do to be safe, I agree - leave.
However, for most Americans, it would be much more feasible to move to Chicago or Minneapolis from a red state or GOP-controlled purple state than to move to a foreign country.
There are many of us who cannot afford to for various reasons, but we haven’t reached the point yet where the house is on fire and it’s run or die. Some are there, not most. Some feel we are just going to die here. The “when do we run?” question is in everyone’s thoughts though now. That is certain.
The immediately targeted groups should try for asylum.
Those who may be eligible for skilled immigration, should try for those programs.
Anybody who has citizen friends and relatives in other countries should encourage them to lobby for allowing refugees from the US
JFC, you'd think from reading the comments here that all the immigrants to America are fantastically wealthy. I'm not saying whether anyone should leave or not, but if a destitute family from south or central america can do it, why can't you?
Tell my you don't have a fucking understanding of either those immigrants that were coming to the US, or how other countries actually refuse large numbers of other people from being accepted (especially disabled, poor, or queer/trans individuals).
Don’t have an understanding of immigrants walking from S America and crossing the Mexico-American border in the dark so they aren’t arrested? Huh? I also have an understanding of immigrants that took boats to America. Maybe you’re the one that needs to get a ‘fucking understanding’
Why so upset and defensive? Are you actually arguing AGAINST the fact that destitute migrants and refugees have escaped to America when they are desperate enough to do so? And if they can, against all odds, why can’t Americans do the same to other countries?
Also, your odds...yeah how many immigrants end up dead along the route? How many end up exploited? How many end up trafficked? How many make it only to get hemmed up at the very end? How many get legalized long term residencies once they get here? How many are immediately sent back?
Where are we going to go? The US has the most liberal laws for immigrants.
How about the fact that countries are actively turning away people who are disabled, queer, trans and sending them back? Even so called "friendly" ones.
If this is the message you spread, and this is the future you believe in, this is the future you will help create. Better to focus on gathering and organizing than despairing and panicking and giving up.
Unfortunately, for those of us with a family member with a disability (and even worse if it's a major mental illness), this is an impossibility. Some of us would rather die than leave our loved ones behind.

of course it’s gonna be hard friend. asylum seeking is hard for basically everybody who does it.
Give me a minute and I'll get back to you
Get your rice and bean.
Get fit.
Get your tools.
You could be encouraging people to build community which is far more realistic and accessible.

So how do I do it?
Clearly those saying to do this, are either fucking privileged or have no fucking clue what the requirements or cost to flee or even the requirements of most countries...
Also, there are certain people that most countries won't accept...
And what about people who just want to live their lives without being terrified of this fascism.
Like even people whose careers aren't "important" like a doctor/engineer, but are just a batista/bartender/hairstylist, etc
Every post I see about countries taking folks in has heavy restrictions.
Other countries don't want us living there, either.
Such a sh** show
Or tell us how our non white passing trans siblings who are survivng paycheck to paycheck can get refugee status so they can survive?
Leaving is not easy
Staying without resources will not be easy too.
They will label us domestic terrorists, but they're all but doing that now anyway.
& im trans. how am i supposed to travel without a passport?
most Americans still have no idea what donny & Jim Crow GOP doing
as more find out, donny gets less & less popular👇🏼
& he’s most unpopular prez ever👇🏼
do agree prominent peeps need to put together emergency exit strategy, just in case
👍🏼👍🏼
And even if they will, a strong and loud diaspora is a huge asset.

No cavalry coming… we know.
Because most people are either too poor, too disabled or refuse to leave their communities and loved ones behind.
Protesting safely by this example would be better:

A non-vassal state would need to think carefully about letting US citizens immigrate… they could turn out to be a risk to the nation’s integrity
Yeah, keep these thoughts to yourself next time.
We must take action in every way we can.
However, for most Americans, it would be much more feasible to move to Chicago or Minneapolis from a red state or GOP-controlled purple state than to move to a foreign country.
avg coward cops are too scared to fuck with armed ppl
Those who may be eligible for skilled immigration, should try for those programs.
Anybody who has citizen friends and relatives in other countries should encourage them to lobby for allowing refugees from the US
Thus, "try"
I'm gonna stick around & do what I can, but I want my progeny outta here. I'll catch up.
Plus we walking to Europe or Australia?
You're clearly a "fucking expert".
How about the fact that countries are actively turning away people who are disabled, queer, trans and sending them back? Even so called "friendly" ones.
Google "Nazis in Sweden" for reference.
This is not an avoidable fight. You just have to pick a side and grab a weapon.
That's just how it is now.
No country wants a coward to move in.
