I had a high school friend whose father was a John Bircher (remember them?) & "Christian" He wanted to move his family to white Rhodesia back in 1975. Then in 2015 I saw that friend, (the John Bircher's son) & he was talking about how we'd be better off with a monarchy. Right wing agenda.
You aren’t Americans. You are USians. You don’t live in the USA,you live in the U.S. You didn’t think we would dignify you with the term “American” did you? The rest of North, Central and South America don’t give you this anymore.
I’d go past the question of kings to the concept of the state itself being in doubt these days. Musk sees the federal government as a freshly acquired company he can pillage, and Trump sees everything as his personal property. In this view sacrificing oneself for the good of the state is nonsense.
The bible belt is brain washed to think they need a lord. That’s where the “king” role comes from. We should tax the church as a political lobby agency.
Unfortunately, with the SCOTUS decision on Trump, they effectively ordained a King, so I’m afraid you DO have Kings & as such are no longer the US of A that the world once respected as a democratic republic, based on Law & Order.
The majority of our Congresspeople and Justices are defending the man who's president instead of the Presidency as their oath to defend the Constitution requires. Destroying the Presidency in order to protect one man and his courtiers is serving a kingship.
yes. Hamilton says essentially the same thing in Federalist 70 & 69-no one is above the law, unlike the monarch the president will be personally responsible for his actions. That was the idea, but the S Ct & Rs in Congress have abandoned it & trumpists have eagerly advanced claims of prerogative.
... really ... funny .... the asshole ran on being one ... repeatedly told people he was going to be one ... and got elected. Your logic is flawed... now we do have a king. And everything he touches turns to shit!
It’s an important point, and reminds me of how you and @kateriga.bsky.social concluded yesterday’s podcast. The path back and out of this dark period in our history depends on defining “American” as something Musk, Patel and the rest of Trump’s crowd are not.
2/2: So what is if they're embraced by the educated elite? Having a sense of belonging is very powerful. And educated MAGA teens can be impactful toward reconciliation.
Attended a lecture series tonight. What would Lincoln do? Reconciliation. So how do we affect this as every day Joes? What about a widespread and collective effort to give scholarships to MAGA teen seniors. Part of why MAGA is so hateful is because they have been treated like outsiders (1/2).
I can’t speak to this lecture, as I did not hear it. But reconciliation was a project to which Lincoln turned after the attempt to destroy the Union had been crushed.
Speaker was knowledgeable as you said Lincoln focused on reconciliation, not retribution. Speaker offered his opinion explaining why Canada is unlikely to be annexed, nor is Gaza going to be the next Trump hotel. Uniting w/MAGA, I think, has to happen to fix this.
Joe Biden was fond of saying “there is more that unites us than divides us.” That’s not an immutable truth, though. It is instead a choice each generation must make, or have made for it.
This generation will need to force that choice to preserve the possibilities of freedom.

This Coup D'oge has lasted long enough.
