White House, via GSA, announces plans to sell off most of the central buildings which constitute the HQs of the American republic, including FBI HQs, HQs of DOJ, HHS, Dept of Labor and many others. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/looting-watch

I guess that settles it. trump has decided that we don't need government anymore. Also, does this mean that the people who were threatened to come back to a working office, not work from home, are now fired for not coming back to a work office?
The Wallace F. Bennett federal building in downtown Salt Lake City is a highly visible icon, but they want to sell it off. Congressional offices, the US Forest Service, the FBI will go where?
They are acting like a private equity company: buy the company and sell off the real estate. It killed the newspaper industry, the magazine industry, grocery, etc. When it’s over it is never the same and always worse.
The GSA list linked in your article and below does not include any DC properties and it only has 320 entries currently, not >400 as your article stated.
Guarantee that they will be sold for a pittance and leased back above market and that you’ll spend the next few years trying to work out whose behind the trust that bought them
My Dem Senator announced today that the GSA fired security and maintenance workers at the Federal Courthouse and other federal buildings here in Las Vegas. Right, no security is needed at a courthouse. I guess the state or city has to provide that now.
He is dismantling the Federal government with the goal of destroying Federalism.
He wants us to go back to a bunch of squabbling states that are easily corrupted by wealthy foreigners.
1864 is the "Again" in "Make America Great Again".
I would bet real money, not much because I don't have a lot, but I would bet that this is not going to happen. They're just talking shite. Big muscles, yeah right, and tiny dicks.
this won't end until he's desecrated the National Mall: demolishing "woke" memorials (Vietnam, FDR, MLK, Lincoln) and institutions (American Indian, African American, Holocaust, Asian), renaming and gilding the Trump Monument, filling in the Reflecting Pool for a gladiatorial battle colosseum, etc.
So if the GSA is selling off non-core buildings when is the US Capitol building on the block? It certainly isn't core to the Trump/Musk/Putin government, and the Republican party has abrogated it's responsibilities as a separate leg of the government. Perhaps that will be announced tonight.
Probably is the same, many B-schools copy Harvard and honestly MBA programs are just fluffed up stuff that could easily be taught for an AA, IMO anyway.
Funny because part of Project 2025's training videos included parts that basically said "don't take notes on a criminal fuckin' conspiracy" - said to walk to people's office / cubicle instead of emailing, etc. to leave no paper trail of discussions.
Didn't Russia end up with a bunch of corrupt oligarchs in large part due to Soviet state-owned assets getting sold off in chaotic and haphazard fashion in the early '90s?
100%. The Dems need to make that plain to any potential buyers that this isn’t a final sale. Of course, the buildings will be riddled with foreign spy gear by then.
In the midst of an office glut, Trump/Musk/Putin are giving away US assets (our inheritance) for pennies on the dollar. Owning buildings already in use is obviously better than renting. This is about demolishing our govt and enriching private real estate investors: Trump's oligarch allies.
Are they even bothering to offer a rationale? Is it the lie that the U.S. government is "heavily in debt"? You don't sell off capital to fund operating expenses. These guys are not business-oriented at all, they are looters, grifters, and thieves, stealing from the people of the United States.
Which means they don’t intend to have many fed employees soon. They don’t have the patience for a RIF. The money grab is too important. Cut the jobs and the court buildings for lawsuits against them, problem solved.
I am just as reluctant to give them credit for anything as anyone here, but there is precedent for the Government selling off buildings it decided there was no point in owning.
This is outrageous. Federal employees are expected to work on-site, but the sites are having their leases canceled or are being sold for pennies on the dollar. We will always need federal law enforcement, for heaven’s sake.
This is how Red Lobster went bankrupt. They sold their properties, then rented back at higher prices (while the corporate goons looted the proceeds from the RE sales).
The US government is being run like Red Lobster, minus the all-you-can-eat shrimp. Just all-you-can't-swallow bullshit.
Exactly, it's a Private Equity raid on the U.S. government. They are breaking it up and selling it off in pieces, while it is still a going concern that does not need to pay off debts to avoid bankruptcy. (The United States cannot go bankrupt.) There is no excuse for this and it's nauseating.

And the louder we shout about it, the crazier we sound 🤷♀️
Did Stringer ever graduate? I don't recall.
Or perhaps Musk? Wouldn't it be great, as an almost president, to actually OWN the government? And then negotiate the rent with yourself?
That said, any building on independence or Constitution Ave needs to be owned by the Federal Gov.
“Ok, they exist but have $1 limits on their credit cards and no offices”
The Union is in deep, deep trouble
“Are *you* proud of *your* heritage?”
(New Uncle Sam slogan.)
Pretty hard not see some echoes of that here.
They're closing down buildings that house immigrant courts. They are overcrowded, not underutilized.
These buildings aren't being sold because they're not in use.
