Came home for a few days and the boiler is broken and the basement is flooding and we have no heat or hot water and it’s winter. Sometimes you are in fact given more than you can handle!

If you have the cash at hand, go to a local hardware store and get a Mr. Buddy indoor/outdoor propane heater, hose, filter and a 20 or 30 gallon cylinder and have it filled. We heat our entire cabin this way off grid and it's very effective, cheap, and safe. You never have to worry about power.
I really appreciate you sharing this. Have had that kind of week also, and if someone who is regularly fighting the good fight is overwhelmed by crap out of your control, it makes it a teensy more manageable. 💛
when people say 'God doesn't give us more than we can handle,' I always say 'well then, God's got a pretty sick sense of humor...' good luck with it all!
I’m so sorry for you. It happened to us last year. It was so bad. I’ve trauma buried it and can only remember bits and pieces. I wish a speedy recovery to your boiler and your brain.
Similar story from over Thanksgiving. It was so overwhelming! I really spiraled. Hope you are getting all the support you need from up close and sending you support from far away.
Well, yeah. I live Canada-adjacent (with a huge lake between). I made my living fixing peoples’ furnaces when they broke. Like any machine, they’re more likely to fail when heavily loaded. First hot day, it’ll be broken air-conditioners. 🤷🏻
I never leave home that I don't shut off the main water valve to my home. I also never leave any appliance running when I leave. Good habits to get into. Especially in the winter time.
Well crap, that's awful. If important documents/other things got wet, freezing them is one way to keep them from further damage (mould growth), while you sort other things out.
What I keep telling myself! I'm living in a place (Western EU) where up until now there is a lower limit to where we can fall. We have exactly the situation you described, but so far it remains on the side of being (severely) annoying. Not existential as yet. Could change with upcoming elections.
Well, since you’re complaining the following is not G-Ds work.
One of the Project 2025 goals is for the President to declare Marshal Law.
Since, I can’t sleep, I’m throwing this out there.
Oh, Roxane! I feel this - been there - yuck, yuck, yuck. If, by chance, you have a dehumidifier, consider running it in your kitchen or bath where you can drain it easily. (Experience w/ basement flooding speaking). My shoulder's tear-proof if you need a good cry.
Yeah it could be worse, but it does sound really bad and I’m pleased you’re following gods command to complain about it on social media so we can commiserate
Just went through something similar. Over here in France. Dealing with the first plumber was living in a 3 stooges film. Breath deeply and drink wine -' you might want to save up on coffee.
Oof. Our furnace conked out for a day when it was about -20 and things got cold fast. It’s very stressful! Luckily they were able to get a guy here before midnight. I hope you get a quick fix. I have a better appreciation of electric blankets now…
Oh no! I am sorry this is happening, I’ve been without heat in the winter and it is awful. If you’re staying put and your oven is working turn it on and crack it. Boil water on the stove. Move to one room and block doorways and windows with blankets.
We have EXACTLY the same situation here! We are into the 5th broken draining pump, plus the hoses freeze, no hot water, water supply off and on, heating system down to it's knees. At least we have open fire places and some wood. All at once, indeed. And the insurance stalls... Car also broke ;-(
My daughter’s car broke down The dryer broke. the furnace started blowing cold air. The kitchen light shorted out, and we all had the flu so bad we were up at the ER. That was the last three weeks. Everything is fixed now and we survived! you can do this But feel free to go outside and scream I did
My dog woke me up at 5:30 am and looking for the coffee in the pantry I grabbed a bag of dried lima beans that opened and spilled hundreds of beans everywhere.
Life is a lot sometimes. You are not alone. Stay strong. Have a sense of humor. Immerse yourself in things you like. Take time for self care. Give more than you receive and above all else, keep Love ❤️ in your heart

And overwhelming.
I hope everything gets fixed soon.

Sorry that you are going through, even if it could be worse. 🙏🏾
I try to keep that in mind, too. Doesn’t stop the ‘more’ from filling me up and spilling out of the bottom of my eyelids… #BigGirlsDOCry
[Sorry, I know that helps not at all, but...?]
I hope it all gets fixed fast.
