I hope Labour’s approach of stealth and subterfuge to keep the right wing pundits off track isn’t going to disillusion impatient but faint hearted supporters.
The damage caused by two decisions in Westminster, by Tory MPs and Labour MPs in concert, is truly remarkable.
They held Britain's future in their hands and seem to have imagined, still in 2019, that the US and the Commonwealth were waiting for Britain to break free from Europe's shackles.
I asked because I'm autistic.
New rules learnt overwrite my English exceptionalism immediately but the UK is stuck within a neurotypical world.
There is no organisation within the UK that teaches European values (which is the key to unlocking the mess) and I was wondering if you would do this. 😀
Good piece. However with #Trump threatening selective tariffs against EU states with trade surpluses, it may make sense to play it cool for a few months (weeks?) while we saee what US does. More worrying (as in article) is UK seems to have no clear plan in longer term.
The UK can not change location.
Trump threatening tariffs against the EU is not relevant.
Brexit will die when English exceptionalism dies.
That maybe years, decades or never.
Botched deal still implies there was any other deal to be had considering the british red lines. The eu made the rules clear to begin with and stuck by it. The UK will never move on if they don't admit that the cherries, they would have liked, were never on the menu
What I find odd about all this is why Labour is pursuing a "Theresa May" strategy in this proposed reset. The EU has consistently rejected Cakeism. Starmer and Reeves know this. So what is their objective here?
And all I have is the Brexiters’ claims “they need us more than we need them” ringing like a hyperscale lie in my ears, & knowing those same people responsible for so much damage are still engaged in public discourse, without an ounce of accountability.
Confirming that leaving the EU has seen record immigration, that Reform believe stopping a few hundred boats is the panacea to all problems, and that EU labour is essential for growth.
Or just avoid it and kick the can down the road. Shameful.
Too late! Look at what Reeves did: Freeports, new runways, easing non-doms rules, deregulation, plus winter fuel, benefits, WASPIs cuts.. Deal with US is done!

Even if all barriers were lifted tomorrow British goods would be stigmatised and would not have the market they once did.
The harm of this one decision by Cameron is truly staggering

final para reminds me of Economist David Mc Williams' prediction that the UK will need an IMF Bailout soon...
Has it been a process of trial and error, you have had some training in how the bits of the EU work or just that everyone keeps on saying this?

Rather than using a majority and a mandate to reset and align, there is further divergence.
Starmer is about to loose the EU. He won’t win trying to deal with Trump.
Inaction will be costly….
A guess with Trump, expect something unorthodox.
Each move will be further divergence from the EU.
If you want rejoin. Don’t lend Labour your vote.

Very foolish to over the EU and the opportunity to regain the GDP we lost.
