idk lets say they cut medicare payments to California forcing hospitals to lay off staff. Fox News say that its because Newsom gave all the tax money to "DEI." Mainstream media says "both sides." Meanwhile hospitals in Texas and Florida are aggressively hiring. Do you think Trump eats the backlash?

Seems like a strategy that would only work for maybe one week before such states could produce significant legal pushback.
Like, you can't cut someone's fuel lines in broad daylight and convince someone for very long that it's the fault of their driving habits.

But ... that's pretty unpredictable at this point.
The Thiel set can write checks if they want, but automatic withholding becomes illegal.
It’s a Federalism issue to be sure, and there are enforcement questions, but we’re heading that way.
If you owe the bank $1,000, the bank owns you. If 39 million people owe the bank, good luck arresting/trying/fining all those people. You own them.
Maybe not quite that simple, but there’s leverage there.
The IRS can go after individuals, but that takes time. Shutting off the flow of funds into the Treasury would be immediate.
Yeah, I hear you.
California: At least 119 days before the election, referendum proponents must distribute a flyer summarizing…
It’s the most basic American tenet - taxation without representation. We *had* representation, but if the laws Congress passed are void at the whim of a dictator, that’s not true now.
Like I don’t want to be there. I want Musk to stop and Trump to do normal damage and live to fight another election year like normal.
But I agree with your prediction that started this thread, and down that path lies only submission or some form of limited secession.
It’s bad, I agree.
But as other replies say, once the federal government fails to keep it's end of the agreement, a state keeping their's is foolish.
And TBH secession sounds more and more appealing by the day.

State laws requiring individual federal withholding go through state legislated banks. Then, the state could say, yeah, no, we're not paying.
I'm completely spitballing here.
Those resisters could reduce their W2 withholding. Comes with some consequences. 1/
But, perhaps the state and state banks could block that.
I know. People would have to find a "local" bank or some such.
The question here is HOW TO STARVE THE BEAST?
He'll cut Medicare/Medicaid to CA, tweet out "California is treating illegals in its hospitals. This is a crime. Funds will be released when they can demonstrate compliance." Media will eat it up.
